Connecting an AC1200 to an R6700 as an AP

I own an R6700 router. I live in a 2000+ sq ft home and I have dead spots in my home. I want to mount my R6700 in my smart control panel in my master bedroom closet. I want my SmartTV in the living room, my PS4 in the lviing room and my daughter's PS4 in her bedroom to be hardwired to my R6700. I also want my wi-fi signal to cover my dead spots (my daughter's bedroom (2nd floor) and my patio (1st floor).

So, I was planning on buying two AC1200 routers.

I would place one in my daughter's bedroom (hard wired from my smart control panel in my master bedroom). I would use one Ethernet port of the AC1200 to connect to my daughter's PS4 and provide a good strong wi-fi signal.

I would place the 2nd AC1200 on the first floor in my living room (hard wired from my smart control panel in my master bedroom). I would use one Ethernet ports on the 2nd AC1200 to connect to my smartTV and another Ethernet port of the 2nd AC1200 to my PS4 in the living room and that 2nd AC1200 provide a good strong wi-fi signal to my patio.

Will this work??

  • This is lcarr0824 again ... and I forgot to mention that I would like the two AC1200 routers to allow me to connect to the same SSIDs that my R6700 propgates.

I'd recommend going the route of orbi and not trying to rig something up. You might get it working but it could be a constant headache to fight with.

you can set the ssid's the same using the AC1200's but its not a mesh system as nothings controlling it so devices will tend to be sticky.

You'll also gain band steering/single ssid function with orbi.

If you watch amazon, they've been running deals on renewed/refurbished orbi systems.
