Filezilla sFTP -- requesting specific port

I have read alot about port forwarding and triggering set up but I cannot get it to work.....YET.

I am using Filezilla too connect to a site using sFTP port 2691.

-Protocol is set to SFTP

-Login  type is normal with username and password entered

When i disconnet the Netgear router and connect directly to the internet, I am able to connect.  As soon as i connect wirelessly through my router, i get the following error message:

Connecting to sftp.xxxx.com:2691...
Response: fzSftp started, protocol_version=8
Command: open "Midway@sftp.xxxx.com" 2691
Error: Network error: Software caused connection abort
Error: Could not connect to server

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  I did try port forward with name SFTP and entered in 2691 for the tcp/ud[ value to no avail specific to the laptop ip address i was using.

i did connect the laptop directly to the modem and Filezilla worked fine.  It was only when i reconnected the router and went through wifi that FIlezilla no longer worked.  To specifcally answer your question, my modem is Motorola Sufrboard model SB6141.

Thanks so much for responding..hope you have some idea on how to fix
