QoS not working properly because of docsis 3.1?
I am currently on my third XR500 in the past year. The first one I have I returned it because of a issue that I wasn't originally informed was just a firmware issue, but everything else worked great ...

I took the router to my friends apartment. We're unsure, but we believe they have fiber internet from a local provider, called NetwurX. When I was here, it seemed that the issue wasn't happening. Their speeds were different, but when I set the sliders and everything properly it was giving me speeds right below how I had them set. There normal speeds for upload and download are about 90, so I set that. Then first set the sliders to 70% and my speeds were always right below 63mbps, which is 70% of 90. I then played with the sliders a few times and wherever I set them at my friends house my speeds always tested right around where I had them set, but then I took the router back to my house and again my speeds at my house kept going about 40-50 mbps lower than I had them set whenever I had QoS activated.

Sounds like your 3.1 modem that you have at home isn't working well with the XR router.
Who is your ISP?
- Netduma-FraserNov 27, 2019NetDuma Partner+1 for the modem being the culprit here, I'd try returning that and getting a different modem to see if it works better.
- droeswNov 28, 2019GuideMy isp is spectrum. This is actually the 3rd 3.1 modem I’ve had from them and they’ll all had the issue. 2 of them have been the same Ubee model, and the other was a technicolor. They all look like the same modem, so I’m not sure if the specs are really different at all, but I’ve had 2 different 3.1 models from spectrum that all have the issue.
- Netduma-FraserNov 28, 2019NetDuma PartnerAre you able to use third party routers with spectrum? Might be an idea to see if you can purchase one (even if just to return it later) to see if it works with one not provided by the ISP.

I believe I can use some third party routers, but none of the most popular are listed on spectrums website as being supported. Is there any way you can ask people who also have 3.1 modems to test if they have the same speed issues? And specific spectrum customers also if possible.

You might want to post about this over on DSLreports.com and go into the Spectrum forum and see who else has issues with this ISP. I know that Spectrum seems to be limiting on user bought HW and has a limited supported modem list. Might ask others there was works best for that ISP.

You might try the CM1000:
- Netduma-FraserDec 02, 2019NetDuma PartnerFurry has the best suggestion, I don't have a list of people that meet that criteria unfortunately.

I've got the same isp as you with a third party router, a netgear cm1000, dont ever buy a third party router if you can aviod it, among the many issues is the fw of the modem will never be updated. the isp has to update fw on ALL routers and they will not push a fw update on a third party router. my cm1000 is running on old fw and as spectrum evolves and updates the third party routers have more and more problems that could be fixed with a simple fw update, for more info go to dls reports and its a common problem.

Not sure on how a DOCSIS 3.1 modem should be related to some of the DumaOS features enabled apparently slowing down the plain throughput. Either it's the pure processing on the XRnnn lowering bandwidth, or the DumaOS features (some name it QoS - I'd say it's some kind of policy routing [and blocking]) are impacting the performance test sites.

That's a plain cable modem.

Modems and routers are two very different beasts.
Pretty much convinced that left and right hand don't know what they do - on both the ISP and the Netgear sides. ISP 1st level support has probably no idea how things are handled for these cable TV provider approved devices. And Netger won't unveil on how the deals with the ISP for allowing their cable modems and routers are drafted and how the updates are supposed to be pushed. It's clear that the listed cable ISP do receive information of Netgear's firmware updates for sure - and somehow they do approve what they get from Netgear's ODM.
And for good resons, our British friends of Netduma like Netduma-Fraser can't see an obvious relation between the performance drop (caused by the XRnnn with some features enabled) and the cable modem.

Netgear does transparently communicate the version numbers for their cable modem and cable (modem-/)routers -> What is the latest firmware version of my NETGEAR cable modem or modem router? How does your CM1000 (v1 or v2?) differ from the firmware version listed?

Links, references, ...? Lots of barely qualified information here and there, lots of verbs and prose only.

I know modems and routers are diffrent smart a$$, I meant to put modem, thats what the cm1000 is!I think the guy I was talking too knew what I was talking about. mind your business nerd, nobodys talking to you! and as far as the isp pushing fw updates on 3rd party modems , lol your full of shi% ,what NG modem do you have? if its one of the first cm1000's its not running on the lastest fw !

So you have spectrum too, but use a Netgear CM1000 modem? What kind of issues do you have with it, cause it's tempting to try a third party one still considering the issues I have with the modems spectrum gave me?
