XR1000 Nighthawk - Wireless devices only sometimes show no internet/lose connection and need reset

An Amazon Firestick as well as my Android mobile phone sometimes are connected to the network and will not get connection - they report either no internet or no connection .  Forgetting the network (both 2 and 5g) and then re-entering the password will usually fix this on the Firestick - on my Android I only have to turn Wi-Fi off then back on for it to correct.    The Wi-Fi appears to be there and working for other devices and wired devices are not affected.   I am plugged directly into the wall with the router (Nighthawk XR1000) using WPA2-Personal security.

DumaOS Version 3.1.1

Any help is appreciated.   Recently updated firmware and antennas are all pointed as optimal as possible.  I have also seen a message in my phone under Wi-Fi when having the issue that says IP Misconfiguration - no idea why or how turning off Wi-Fi on the phone corrects this.   Using an Xfinity Modem/Router from ISP - this modem/router is set in bridge mode and using XR1000 as router/network.

Any help is appreciated thanks

I've seen way to many ISP supplied devices that didn't function as they should in bridge mode.

Have you tried leaving the ISP's device in router mode (disable its wifi) and put the netgears IP address into its DMZ?

I have just done this and will let you know if it corrects the issue.   Wi-Fi is off and the Nighthawk router is in the DMZ (It has a an IP of 10.0.0.98)

      Internet Status
      Connection Type DHCP
      WAN IP 10.0.0.98
      Connection Status Connected

And if anyone was following along with my reboot issue it is solved it seems for sure

Ok I am back again - I have stuck with this setup and it has been about the same or maybe a bit worse.   Issue still only happens to certain devices on Wi-Fi - commonly manifests in the following way - I will have my Android phone connected to 5g Wi-Fi.   The device will function fine - I will commonly use Chromecast and send YouTube to a Chromecast on network without issue - while this is still working often if I use any other app or even attempt to move around on YouTube - I get Offline or no Internet.     If I turn off Wi-Fi and turn it back on I get right back on no issue.    This has only been happening since I have used this Netgear XR1000.   I have tried turning the Anonymize MAC option off on my phone and turning it back on - no difference.

Before this I used an old TP-Link WDR-3600 but did not have any issue like this at all.   It was using stock Linksys firmware for it's entire life.   Same Xfinity Modem on both routers.    This issue never happens on wired devices.

I am going to try putting the Xfinity Modem/Router back into Bridge mode (I was doing the DMZ to my Netgear as suggested) because the other thing that happens when I go out of bridge mode is that I can never get my Security Cameras to work properly if NOT in bridge mode.   (In bridge mode I have the Port forward setup and they work with IPCAM software via public IP)

It's been great not having this thing reboot all the time (Plugging into wall direct fixed this!)    Current firmware.   Thanks in advance this board has been very helpful.

  • In LAN Settings assign reserved IP addresses to devices, apply, reboot from the interface, wait 2 minutes and see if that stops the disconnects.
