XR500 Drops Internet DHCP Lease Info

Hey All, I spent awhile troubleshooting internet dropping for all of my devices and wanted to share the solution in case someone else comes across it.

The internet would drop for a minute or two every 10 minutes or so.  To see what was going on, I looked at settings>monitoring>connection status.  Under the Lease obtained and Lease expired, I discovered that the DHCP lease for the WAN was renewing every 10 minutes.  This is actually an issue with the modem provided by my internet provider (ATT) not the netgear.

To resolve, I logged into the ATT router (uverse default 192.168.1.254) and went into the settings for DHCP. (Home Network>Subnets and DHCP) Under here, I increased my DHCP Lease time to 5 days.  This increased the lease time on the XR500 to 5 days as well.

Hope this helps!

Your ISP modem already has a router built in. Depending upon the mode you have the XR router in, if router mode, This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

    Couple of options,
    1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem.
