XR500 what should I do? Upgrading Modem

Hi I'm new here I'm an owner of an xr500 I have Xfinity gigabit internet I'm currently using the xb7 with it in bridge mode and the xr500 as my router I've been having more problems with Comcast then I would like so I'm wanting to get rid of their equipment(I would like to note I do minimal streaming I do lots of downloading from the webs on my computer / gaming laptop and gaming PC and Xbox series X are my main use of the internet at least 95% of it)

Which leads me to what are my best options for my research I'm trying to figure out if I should go with the CM2000 + Xr500 or cm2000 + Asus RT-AX88U( and sell my xr500) or would the Netgear CAX80 be a reliable option I'm just skeptical about a router modem combo please any insight or users of any of the product please give me your input on what my best options are I can afford one or both cable and modem or both. I'm not to familiar with wifi6 or most of the new technology on this side so input is very helpful thank you!

  • You already have the XR so no need to buy another router (I am also a bit biased!) but all you really need is a basic modem - it just passes all the traffic straight through for the XR to control

By your name I would imagine lol I absolutely love the xr500 I have no problem with it I just didn't know if Wi-Fi 6 or 6E would be a good thing for me to invest in now while I had the extra money which is why I asked about upgrading the router also have Dumas 3.0 firmware on my xr500 never had any issue with it I just want to replace my modem combo that I have and if I'm going to spend $250 on a new modem the CM 2000 I just thought that I would ask input on what my best options would be I don't mind spending the extra on a new router too or the router if it's going to upgrade my gaming experience that's all

Glad to hear you love it! I mean it really depends, do you have devices now that could benefit from WiFi 6? If not do you plan do have any in the not too distant future? If the answer to either of those is yes then getting a WiFi 6 router such as the XR1000 would be a good investment. If not then may be best to hold off for a little while until it is more suitable for your network.
