Disabled certain devices in device manager and when trying to turn back on the app is not working

I have had this issue the two times that I have separately tried to pause my kids iPads.

Here is the issue:

1. I tried to stop my kids iPads through the device manager GUI in the ORBI app

2. After successfully stopping the internet to the iPad's, I continued to use the internet as expected on all other 2.4/5.0 or wired devices

3. After a few hours, I tried to re-activate the blocked iPad's in an effort to let my kids use their iPad's (with the internet)

4. When I tried to open up the ORBI App, the app attempted to connect to the ORBI but was unable to join the WIFI network. This is interesting given that my other devices that were not blocked continue to get WIFI as expected and there is no issue.

ISSUE: I am unable to open the APP to unblock the previously blocked iPad's.

What I have tried:

1. I have attempted to uninstall and reinstall the ORBI app without success

2. I have restarted my ISP modem and it still does not work

Just 4 days ago I had the exact same issue, and after blocking the devices for a short period of time, I again attempted to turn back on. Again, in attempting to do so, there again was an issue in re-opening the ORBI app to get to the device manager feature (GUI). The main issue I believe is that the default ORBI SSID does not come up as expected, rather I have renamed it to another name.

Anyhow, this does not work and to be honest, I am very frustrated and confused as to why there is not a simple way to temporarily turn off devices and then turn back on without affecting the ORBI app.

Can someone help?

I have this product: https://www.netgear.com/home/wifi/mesh/rbk852

Wifi 6 Tri-band Mesh System

Thank you in advance.

    Hi RM2020,

May you provide us with the current firmware version you have installed on your Orbi router along with the app version on your mobile device.

    Thanks,

    Christian

  • I'm having the same issue. Shut off my childs device for bedtime, the next day the device will not reconnect. The device (Nintendo Switch) says "This device is blocked by Access Control in the router." The device no longer shows up in the Orbi app. I've been working on this for more than an hour now and I'm getting increasingly frustrated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tim

I am having the same problem except now the device I tuned off won’t even show back up in the list to be able to switch back on. How do I fix this??

This was never fixed by Orbi / Netgear customer support. To fix this issue, I had to literally delete the app, register a new email address and set up a new password. Everything has been working but I never got any resolution from Netgear.

  • Did you ever get an answer to your issue??  I'm having the same issue.  I've tried everything that you tried, but nothing is working.  SO FRUSTRATING!!!

I never did get it resolved. It is incredibly frustrating because the wifi 6 capability is amazing but the actual functionality which I would deem basic does work properly. Does netgear have people reading this forums??????????

My impression is that no Netgear employees are assigned to participate in the community forums.  There are some users tagged as "admin" or "moderator" who seem to be tasked with the mechanics of the forum and who appear to have ways to communicate with Netgear departments.  The forums are a convenient place for customers to discuss things among themselves.

I have debated  paying for a year of Gearhead support to be able to contact.Netgear directly.  Gearhead seems to be Netgear's version of Best Buy's Geek Squad.  If WiFi was essential to my business, I would probably look for products that are supported by Insight and definitely have a support contract.
