Orbi iPhone app user name hard coded as "admin"

Up until today, the Orbi app on my phone allowed me to login using my netgear.com credentials - this has worked for over two years.

Now, suddenly, it's asking me for "admin credentials" in the app, and the user name "admin" is HARD-CODED into the app; i.e., you can't change it to something else 😕

Here's the thing:  I KNOW my admin user name (it's NOT "admin") and password - and they work fine when logging in via browser - but I can no longer log in via the app because "admin" is hard-coded in the user name field and you CAN'T CHANGE IT.

What are my options here?  I guess forevermore I can manage my Orbi network via browser ONLY, but the app was actually pretty useful until today - any tips / tricks?

  • Initially the app should ask you for your NG profile account information, then after that, depending on what NG Orbi your connected too at the time, it WILL ask you for the ADMIN and password for the Orbi router log in credentials. Admin is the default user name for ALL NG products. Can not be changed.

Well, it obviously CAN be changed LOL because I know what my admin username and password are and the username is NOT “admin”.

Not sure when or how I changed it, but the username and password combo works just fine in the browser, and I’m sure it WOULD work in the Orbi app if only they’d let me edit the username

Odd how it worked for over TWO YEARS and suddenly doesn’t đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

Sorry to be a pest.  "Works just fine in the browser" refers to connecting to http://orbilogin.net or the local IP address of the Orbi router?

Can you please identify the model of Orbi router?

(Back when telnet was allowed to the original Orbi routers, it was indeed possible to change the administrative account name from "admin" to anything else.  Since telnet access to the newer models has never been supported, it is a stretch to think that anyone has found a method to change "admin" on the newer products.

FURRYe38 is correct about the sequence.  I just now deleted data from my Android Orbi app and then opened the app.  The first thing it wants is the Netgear login, typically the email address and password that are used to log into the Netgear support site and community forum.

After saying, "Have found your Orbi", it then asks for the router administrative login, "admin" and password.

One thing that annoys the heck out of me, is the the very first prompt for Netgear login pops up a box offering a choice of "admin" and some random email address that I lost access to years ago.  (It is buried somewhere in "Netgear Land".)
