Adding Non-AX6000 Satellite to Orbi WiFi 6 AX6000 System (RBK852)

I currently have the Orbi WiFi 6 System AX6000 (RBK852) with one router and one satellite. I'd like to add another sateliite, but they are currently unavailable (RBS850). Is it possible to buy a satellite from another Orbi system (for example, the RBS50) and add it to my current AX6000 mesh system or will that not work? Any recommendations?

  • I have an RBR850 with one RBS850.

I also have two RBS50s attached... however, the limitation is that they must be hard wired since the backhauls for them are not yet compatible.

Netgear purportedly says they will fix that over time so you can use wireless backhaul, but I wouldnt hold your breath.

If you can hard wire them, you will find they work great -- just dont provide any AX capability at those satellites.

  • What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. They can be placed farther out as well. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

I would recommend waiting for the 850 series RBS to become avialable.
