AX6000 (RBK852) WiFi in AP Mode seems slow (not double NAT)

Hi All,

I have a RBK852 system (RBR850 + RBS850) setup in AP mode. (Firmware Version V4.6.14.3_2.3.12)

When I speed test from http://routerlogin.com it consistently gives more than 900Mbps. (Most recent test was 934.89Mbps for example.)

But using the Ookla Speed test app (not the website) with a laptop and also on an iPad (both on 5GHz), the maximum download I can achieve is slightly more than 300Mbps, and often it can be as low as 150Mbps.

I have checked for Double NAT issues and it seems AP Mode is working correctly.

There are only about 10 devices on the network, including printers, computers and phones, and none of them are doing anything intensive network-wise.

Should I be getting better speeds than this from the RBR850?

Thanks for your ideas on this.

Best regards!

  • Please provide the model numbers of the laptop and iPad.  WiFi performance is usually only a fraction of the ISP speed and depends to a large extent on the type of WiFi adapter.  There are several types of "5G" connection (n, ac, ax) which have different capabilities.

The laptop is a MacBook Pro with the following WiFi:

      802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless networking; IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n compatible

What are the MIMO specs of the apple devices? 2x2 ? Higher?

Most 2x2 MIMO devices top our at around 300-600Mpbs depending on design and support and distances from closest source signal.

Most I have see on my 2018 MBP is around 700Mbps when close to a signal source. On average, it's around 500-600 depending on where I'm at in the home.

What are ethernet connected speeds using Ooklas installable speed test app and the PC connected at the RBR?

Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.
        How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.
