Configuring the Orbi RBR850 kit with an AT&T Fiber BGW320-500 Gateway -fequent DNS errors

Hello,

I am using an Orbi RBR850 with the AT&T Fiber BGW320-500 Gateway and followed to the letter AT&T instructions as well as some found in this forum to configure the RBR850 in IP Pathrough mode. While everything appears to work fine, I frequently get the following message when I try to reach various websites: "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN." I also had instances where devices connected to the Orbi via wireless tell me that they can't find the internet.

Just FYI, below is what I did to configure my RBR850:

1. Ensured Orbi was in DHCP mode: my Orbi RBR850 is set as " Use Router as DHCP Server"

2. Disconnected everything from the BGW320.

3. Connected the Orbi and my laptop directly to the BGW320.

4. Logged into the BGW320 via browser.

5. Under the Device List Tab "cleared" and "rescanned" for devices.

6. Under the Firewall Tab enabled IP Passthrough.

7. Selected Allocation Mode: Passthrough.

8. Selected Passthrough Mode: DHCPS-fixed.

9. In the drop-down menu Passthrough Fixed MAC Address the BGW320-500 listed a MAC address which differed by its last digit from the one on the Orbi device, hence I entered the Orbi MAC Address manually.

10. Clicked on "Save".

11. I finally completed the configuration by restarting the BGW320-500. Device>Restart Device>Restart

Thanks for the detailed description. I am using an Orbi RBR850 with the AT&T Fiber BGW320-500 Gateway. I did exactly what you did, and everything seemed to work perfectly; however, I frequently get the following message from my laptop when I try to reach various websites: "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN."

I have no idea why this is happening and could use some guidance. My Orbi RBR850 is setup as " Use Router as DHCP Server"

The one thing that I find odd is that the MAC address written on the bottom of my Orbi, which is the address I entered in the Firewall>IP Passthrough page of the BGW320-500 differs by 1 digit (the last one) from what is shown by the BGW32--500 in its "Choose from list" drop down.

The firmware version is 7.2.6.31 on the RBR850.

IPv6 is Disabled on my RBR850. Should I turn it on?

IPv6 is available on my BGW320-500 and seems to be enabled.

I am trying to avoid using the RBR850 in AP mode as I was told I would lose some functionality if I did so.

Also as I mentioned before, I am puzzled by the following fact:

My RBR 850 has a MAC address at the bottom of the router, ending with 74. When I go to my BGW320-500 and click on "Device List" I see xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:75 where xx are the same digits as my RBR850 MAC address.

Still in the  BGW320-500 configuration under Firewall>IP Passthrough

Passthrough Fixed MAC Address > Device list gave me the MC address ending with 75, but I manually entered the one with 74 at the end. Could that cause issues?

Should I use Dynamic DNS Service on the  RBR850 (it is currently unchecked).

Try the 75 as seen by the ISP modem first.

    Any progress on this?
