Connecting two 960 systems
I have a 960 system with 4 satellites and purchased another 960 system with 2 satellites. I would like to expand the first system with the second. Can I use a wired backhaul from the main router ...
You have choices:
- Connect the two new satellites to the existing system and have a 960 system with 6 satellites. (quite a lot!), or
- Connect the new router to the existing system with an Ethernet cable and create a second, separate WiFi system. Even if this new system is given exactly the same WiFi credentials as the current system, it will be a separate system. Mobile devices will not roam seamlessly between the two systems. (The major benefit of mesh systems.) In addition, if the new router is in the default 'router mode', then devices connected to the new system will be a different IP subnet than devices connected to the primary system and networking may be a nightmare.
- Connect the new router to the existing system with an Ethernet cable and place the new router in "Access Point Mode" (AP). This will keep all devices in the same IP subnet to make networking easier, but will still cause problems for mobile devices.
This is a LOT of WiFi.
