Device Can’t Find Main Network, but Finds Guest Network

I have an RBR850 with two RBS850 satellites. I recently got a new car that has a WiFi option for OTA updates, etc. However, the car cannot find my main home network as an “available network” to join. It finds several of my neighbor’s networks, and despite having great WiFi coverage at my driveway, it can’t seem to find mine.

Out of curiosity today, I set up a quick Orbi guest network and to my surprise the car found it and was able to connect easily (with great signal)!

Can anyone explain why this might be the case? Both networks have the same security (WPA2) settings and I can’t for the life of me figure out why the car can only find/connect to the guest network.

Thanks in advance!

  • are other devices able to view the network in the garage?

Did you try disabling AX for the 2.4ghz network on the orbi?

Did you try changing wifi channels/

Other devices have no issue viewing/connecting to the main network in the garage.

I just tried disabling AX for the 2.4ghz network with no luck.

I haven't tried changing WiFi channels, but that was next on my list as it seems several other posts with similar issues have been solved by changing the WiFi channels. The car was made in Europe (Volvo), so I'm curious if that has something to do with needing to use a different channel. The 2.4ghz channel is currently set to "Auto" and the 5ghz channel is set to 48. Any suggestions on what channel(s) I should try with the 2.4ghz?

      • Very mysterious.  Another setting to try changing, just in case it helps your Volvo connect, is set CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347 (seems to improve compatibility with some 2.4Ghz wireless devices):

        1. Go to the web admin portal at http://orbilogin.com/
        2. Click to the Advanced tab, Advanced left menu, Wireless Settings
        3. Set CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347 for both 2.4hz and 5Ghz networks
        4. Press Apply
