Do I need a modem?

I just purchased my orbi.  I do not need a modem with my internet company but the orbi is asking for a modem.  Do I have to have a modem or can I get around that?

    Depends on what your isp uses or how they connect. 

    Some have their own routing setup like in apartments. 

    Some are ONT's that are just gateways. Some ONT's have a router built into them. 

    You dont have to have a modem but you do have to contact your isp to see what the best way to hook a router to their setup is.

    You can manually setup the RBR.

    If you get plain ethernet with DHCP from your ISP (at least that's how I'd interpret "I do not need a modem with my internet company"), your orbi should just work, or rather - the setup assistant will detect the network and its internet uplink and select ethernet+dhcp for you.
