Getting 1000Mbps speed on orbi testspeed but client are running slow at 300Mbps

I am using RBR350 with a satellite. I am connected to 1000Mbps fiber to premises. When I run speedtest through orbi app, I am getting 950Mbps speed. So I am getting good speed upto router.

When I am trying different clients connected via wifi to orbi with ac and ax wifi adapter. I am only getting 300Mbps speed.

How can I improve speed?

  • The RBR350 is the most basic dual band AX kit netgear makes. Its specs are similar to the MR60 nighthawk.

and it doesn't have the dedicated backhaul of the triband systems. So it'll have quite a bit less speed than the tribands or higher spec'd systems. and you don't tell us if you're testing directly from the router or one of the satellites.

Plus you don't tell us what device you're testing on. As those can be a bottleneck.

I've never tested the 350 series so I don't know what their baseline speed is maximum but you can read a few reviews on the MK system and see how it performs because the 350 series should be similar.

With this package, there are few options:

    • Use WiFi devices supporting WiFi6 (802.11ax) rather than WiFi5.
    • Connect directly to the router rather than the satellite.
    • Because this system uses the same radios/antennas for both the user WiFi connection and the WiFi connection between router and satellite, change to an Ethernet connection between the router and satellite.  (This is often not practical.)

I feel compelled to point out that "higher speed" does not necessarily  result in an observable difference.  A web page may load in 1.3 seconds instead of 1.8 seconds.  Will you notice?  Streaming 4K video requires about 25Mbps.  If the WiFi system is capable of transmitting 900Mbps, a video will still use the same bandwidth to stream as it does when the system is capable of 300Mbps.

There definitely are specific situations where bandwidth makes a difference, such as backing up media servrers to NAS systems.
