HELP!!! Orbi 960 Series AXE11000 | Hardwire speeds of router and satelite fine, wifi drops randomly

Hello,

I have a NETGEAR - Orbi 960 Series AXE11000 Quad-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 6E System (3-pack) - White and have had it for about 11 months with an extra satelite. (In a 2500 sq foot home).

It worked flawlessly until a couple of weeks ago. My Wifi speeds randomly drop as low as 2MPBPs every day at some point. Sometimes a reboot will fix, others it wont. (And I'll reboot again later until it does, or change the channel on 5ghz every few minutes, usually ending back at 48). There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to this, no new devices on my network, and no major changes. (No new smart devices, etc).

My hardwire speeds are:

  • Modem: 1.2GBPS
  • Orbi Router: 1.0-1.2GBPs
  • Orbi Satelite: 6-700MBPs

Wireless Speeds

  • Normal: ~800MBPs
  • With this issue: 2MBPs - 40MBPs (Causing many of my devices to drop offline completely)

I have tried the following:

  • 8 hours of "Pro" support from NetGear (Paid) Not very helpful, usually get the same script, you can never talk to a supervisor, they NEVER call back, and you can't actually speak to L2 support.
  • Shutting off the main breaker in my house for 10 minutes to reset everything
  • Changing channels on 2.4 and 5 ghz
  • I think the issue is on the 5GHZ band, as the 6GHz band is not impacted at all (Only one device) and the majority of items that slow down or drop are connected to 5GHz. I can't figure out how to figure out if it is one or a group of them. It also seems changing the channel helps, but only if I change to something else, and then back to 44 or 48.
  • Updated all firmware (V7.2.6.21_5.0.20)
  • Factory reset units
  • Netgear support sent a replacement router  (As it was generating a solid Red LED, essentially bricking the unit). New one booted up fine for a few hours and is doing the same things again. Occasionally I get my normal 7-800 MBS wireless speeds for a few hours, but they go away)
  • ISP came out and confirmed signal, sent several boosts
  • Tried iOT and Guest networks with same results
  •  Moved satelites (The funny thing is, they all have a "good" backhaul status now, whereas before my Basement satelite always read "poor"

Any ideas please? I've also tried Apple Support (I thought it could be HomeKit) and have not gotten anywhere. I'm not sure if its a specific device, group of devices (I Have several Nest Cams, Apple TVs, etc) Could it be a Satelite? (They all show great connection on 5ghz band)

  • What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

For at size of home, the RBR and just 1 RBS is needed:

Please turn OFF all but one RBS.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
    Turn off and unplug modem.
    Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

    • Please see below:

      • What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)?
        • a️pprox 30 feet, give or take. I added the extra satellite because I could not get a strong signal in my basement (assuming due to building materials). Ive had that same issue with other routers as well. So I have the router and one satellite on my main floor at farthest points, one in the basement, one in the upper level)
      • Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
        • It did with my old setup, have not tried with the replacement router
      • Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
        • only wireless, hardwire speeds are great. (Even off a satellite)
      • What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
        • 2.4GHZ: Auto (I tried 1,6,11, and they made it worse)
        • 5GHZ: 44 (48 works sometimes too)
        • 6GHZ: 69

        • I would agree, but this has worked incredible for 1 year eliminating several dead spots in my home
      • Please turn OFF all but one RBS.
        • Should I do this when the problem is occurring? It is stable right now, so I'm trying to wait for it to happen again to try and diagnose.
      • Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
        • Yes
      • Be sure to restart your network in this sequence: (got it, will try that next time I need to reset. Or are you suggesting doing this now? Or next time there is an issue?)
        Turn off and unplug modem.
        Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Thank you very much for taking the time here. Is there anything I can do to try and see if it is a certain device? Or do you think its something else network related?

Lets turn OFF all RBS accept for one. Then observe and monitor.
