Help with Port Forwarding Error

I'm getting this error when trying to forward ports for my Nvidia Shield devices for PLex

The specified port(s) are being used by other configurations. Please check your configurations of Remote Management, Port forwarding, Port Triggering, UPnP Port Mapping table, RIP, and Internet connection type

I had them with an external port for 32401 and 32402

they have dynamic IP addresses

so when the router resets, they get new IP addresses. So I have to go in and change the IP address, however this time now I'm getting that error.

I had a Nighthawk Router and this never happened. It would spit out that error but would change them anyway since these 2 devices are using those two ports.

Anyway to overcome this? In the meantime I just changed the external ports to 32402 and 32403 and it works, but I also have to change this in Plex each time which I don't want to do. Any suggestions? Static IP causes issues with SHIELD's so I don't want to go that route.

  • Port forwarding requires that the internal IP address remain constant. Rather than set a Static IP on the actual device, the recommended practice is to use the Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab, Setup Menu item LAN Setup to reserve (or 'assign') specific IP addresses to devices using their hardware Mac address.

The DHCP 'pool' of addresses to be handed out to other devices is set to a separate range of IP from those that are being reserved for specific devices.  With the separation, there is no chance that some device will be assigned an address from the pool that should be given to one of the fixed devices.
