Max number of Satellites for ORBI AX5400

I have a AX5400 router and 5 satellites but i can only get 3 satellites connected at the same time.  Is there a way to get all 5 satellites to connect?

  • Netgear's official documentation on adding satellites recommends a maximum of four AX satellites connected over WiFi:

https://kb.netgear.com/000062035/How-many-satellites-can-you-add-to-an-Orbi-WiFi-System  There is no statement of a maximum total number of satellites.

The issue is that as more satellites are added, there is more contention for the WiFi channel which connects the router and satellites.  Too many satellites using this channel affects performance.

The 760 is sort of an "odd duck" in the AX product line.  There was a flaw in the "Add Orbi Satellite" process in the original Orbi product that allowed users to add only three satellites.  The work-around was to power off some of the existing satellites, go through the process of adding more satellites, and then power the original satellites back up.  There are reports of up to six satellites being on a single system.

Perhaps the 760 has a similar programming idiosyncrasy.  Perhaps power off those three satellites that are working correctly, go through the process of adding more, and then power those back up again?

p.s While satellites are powered off, they will show on the Attached Devices display as Disconnected, and suggest that you delete them.  Obviously ignore this.

You may have inferred that a total of six WiFi access points (router and five satellites) is not a typical installation for residential users.  These sometimes appear on the forum as a result of buildings with concrete walls which interfere with WiFi signals.  If you do get all five satellites connected, it would be helpful to get your perspective on "how well it works".
