My RBR750/RBS750 is having it's internet connection start and stop over and over
I am using an RBR750 router connected to three RBS750 satellites. I live in a home with chicken wire / plaster walls so signal doesn't travel well, which is why we have so many satellites. It's worked flawlessly for almost two years.
In the last month, a new and frustrating issue appears: wireless devices will stay connected to the network but have the Internet connection randomly drop and then come back a few minutes later
Things I've considered/tried:
- Wired devices never lose Internet access so I am assuming it's not an issue with our Internet connection
- We have a direct ethernet line so there's no other modem/router to deal with. The line goes straight to the Orbi router.
- All other satellites are connected wirelessly.
- I wondered if it was a firmware issue and noticed that even though the Orbis said that I had the latest update, there was a newer one out there so I manually updated it everything to v4.6.7.13. Nothing changed.
- I have checked that ethernet cable into the Orbi is secure.
- I've seen a magenta light in the past when there was no Internet connection but I'm not seeing the magenta light come on to the router or any satellite when it happens.
- I talked to a support person and they recommended I try 2.4 and 5 GHz different channels. That did nothing.
- The support person had me change my "MTU Size" (under Advanced -> Setup -> WAN Setup) from 1500 to 1439 and that did nothing.
- The support person wants me to hard reset my device, but I'm super skeptical that will help anything.
There's no rhyme or reason to it. A device will be connected and using it fine. Then it will say that there is no Internet. Then a minute or two later it will come back with Internet again. Repeat this endlessly.
In reading other posts, I've seen others talk about disconnection issues but I couldn't tell if this was the same thing. Anyone have a clue about what I could do?
Just got off the phone with Netgear tech support and wanted to share what I learned in case any future people have this issue. They suggested one thing new and it actually appears to be working: use a hard wired connection for each of my satellites. Now I get that some people won't have this as an option but I actually do.
Recapping previous learnings, my system worked fine with just the router. It worked fine with the router and any one of the three satellites. But once I added the second or third satellite, it stopped working. So I tried adding the second and third satellites as wired and they worked. Now I'm going to try and add the first satellite back as wired and see if it remains stable.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Who is your ISP?
There should be a modem or a ONT maybe unless you live in a building with others then maybe a switch. What is the CAT# LAN cable between the wall jack and the RBR? CAT6 is recommended.
Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?
Turn OFF the RBS and test with just the RBR alone. Does the problem still happen with the RBR alone?

Thanks for these questions FURRYe38. I definitely have not tried turning off the satellites and testing just the router alone. I'll do that and let you know what I see.
Do you really think doing a factory reset will be effective? Is there a way to backup all the settings first? I'm skeptical that it would make a difference because no settings changed in between when it worked and when it stopped working. Thoughts?
