Nest Protect (battery-only version) will not stay connected
I had many of the same issue, including the IoT network on for no reason I could see. To fix that, I toggled it on, saved, and then toggled it back off. It hasn’t reappeared.
My biggest nuisance right now with the RBKE963 I just got is that my Nest Protect (battery-only version) will not stay connected. All my other Nest Protect (wired) have no issue. But yeah, not sure what to do about the battery one. Had no issues with it till I got these Orbis. If I factory reset the Nest Protect I can get it to connect again, but then it goes offline (it’s meant to check in on the WiFi once per day or unless there’s a fire etc). So it seems like it gets connected just fine, but then is unable to re-establish the connection a day later and then is perpetually offline.
Anyone have any ideas about how to resolve that?

Possible a ping ponging behavior maybe happening with the one battery only device. We saw this with NEST thermostat controllers that were only connected to there internal battery source, would after a period of time, get a low battery notice. This happened due to the NEST seeing many signals and not being able too or not staying locked on to one particular signal, even a close signal. Would begin to search and search and search. This search function caused the battery to drain and would have to be re-charged. I found that for one controller, even while the RBR was close, the NEST would not lock on. Farther distances seems to help. Some of this was on NG, the other portion was on NEST to help fix how there devices locked on and stayed locked on. One fix was to just power connect the controller to a power source so the battery became a non issue.
Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF? Try with the RBS turned OFF and see if the device keeps connected.
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
Is Mixed Mode WPA2 and WPA3 enabled on the RBR?
How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Try disabling the following and see:

We have 4 of the Nest Protects installed, and one is a battery version. I don't look at it too often, but it's online now and I have not noticed issues with it. It is installed probably 10 feet from the router, so it likely always connects to the RBR vs RBS. History on it shows "OK" daily back to the 15th of Feb - same as the other units.
However, when I scan the network, they don't all show up sometimes. I don't know what the behavior of those things is supposed to be - maybe they disconnect to save power and wake up when they report in or if they sense smoke.
- Thank you for the replies. I haven’t tried connecting to the IoT network only, and it does seem curious only this one device has trouble, even when brought in next to my RBS. The battery Nests Protect doesn’t stay connected to Wi-Fi 100% of the time like the wired ones do to protect the batteries. They do check in about once a day. Unfortunately, the battery one never manages to reconnect for whatever reason. It’s on my main, mixed WPA2/3 network.
BullMoon does yours connect to your main network or the IoT network? Any particular settings there you changed? 2.4Ghz or both 2.4Ghz+5Ghz? Thank you both.- As an update. I took the batteries out and brought it upstairs next to the RBR, put the batteries back in, reconnecting it to Wi-Fi. 24 hours later it successfully checked back in onto Wi-Fi. Hmmm. So it seems to like connecting to the RBR but not the RBS. Any idea why that would be?
