4.6.3.16 remains unstable - satellite goes through sync cycle still on a fairly regular basis, and if has lan attached, a very regular basis. The lack of acknowledgement from Netgear is appalling.

Contact NG support and let them know what your experiencing.

OH. MY. GOD. What an evening from hell. Trying to follow all the tips from the last few days......I just wrapped up 6 straight hours trying to get this POS to work like it should. I can't even begin to describe all the many different types of issues since this horrid update.
Some devices(my friggin brand new 5G mobile phone, and personal laptop included) wouldn't connect.....one Satellite took a dozen tries to connect.
To this very minute, I tried so many things, I still don't know what FINALLY did the trick. Brute force/ sheer sheer # of efforts?
To the Netgear moderator gent in this thread(I think?) - THANK YOU for your willingness to jump in and provide guidance- we appreciate you trying to help.
But I've gotta tell ya.....I'm ABSOLUTELY looking for a new mesh system. I've had nothing but issues with this router and 2 satellites since end of last year.
Everytime I lose power to the router, NOTHING comes back online by itself. I have to do a damn hard reset(using same SSID and password so the 3 dozen smart "things" in my home can reconnect), because nothing else fixes it. I've heard that if left alone for hours, it MAY right itself? But who's got that kind of time in the middle of a work from home business day??
Can someone confirm how restoring a backup .cfg file works? Is it really just easy enough to blast through to desktop settings UI and restore to get right back to a 100% working network setup? Kicking myself for not finding this out sooner.
Sorry for venting...... I'm going to medicate myself to sleep now.
Since the update to the latest firmware (4.6.3.16) things are getting even worse than with the previous firmware version
My current setup includes COSTCO RBK753S kit with the router and 2 satellites. In order to have better control over DHCP, I am using PiHole
which is my DNS and DHCP server, so the router's DHCP is disabled.
Everything was fine with previous firmware, the backbone channels were stable and I didn't have any issues except for random drops of wifi from some of my devices (I have about 24 devices connected).
Since the forced upgrade to the latest firmware I am constantly experiencing lagginess with all the devices that are connected to the satellites. Web sites are slow, some of the sites I am unable to connect to at all, especially from my smartphones. switching off the wifi and getting on cellular data immediately resolve the issues. Same if I stand close to the router and reconnect the Wifi - the same sites that didn't work with satellite connection start working fine with the connection to the router.
I have reset both satellites several times, I have reset the router - nothing helps. I am still getting connection timeouts for many applications running on my phone or other phones inside the network as well as some sites on my working laptop.
I am working from home, the connectivity is vital to me, so I am close to return this amazing peace of untested
**bleep**hardware/software back to Costco and buy a different mesh system (my house is about 7000 sq ft so I don't think the regular router will be able to cover the whole house, but I may try this as well. Unfortunately I have no way to downgrade the software on these devices to get back to the stable (3.X) version.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User

Now that I'm back up and running, everything seems to be running fine for the last 24 hours, except one laptop.
It's a little older, but the pc had no issues connecting flawlessly to this mesh setup prior to.
However, since this last firmware update, it cannot see my network.
I have MANY smart devices currently connect to 2.4 band without issue.
During my 5-hour long problem solving session last night, I disabled 5ghz, and this same laptop was able to see the network.
Can you or someone point me in the right direction to get this laptop to see 2.4ghz without having to disable 5ghz?
Was relieved last night thinking I got it all sorted, but I'm still wanting to toss this whole mesh system.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
How did you disable 5Ghz?

After taking a look again, I do see this is likely the AX that everybody's talking about in this thread.
When I unclicked "Enable 5G", and rebooted the router, the laptop saw the home network.
hi
so post the system rest things appear to be normal
used the system extensively yesterday from apple TV/Iphone/ipad
was connected to the main unit and sattelite
did not have any disconnections ect
ps ; have also connected camera to the same using a static ip
have temoprary disconnected the same.
thanks

Glad the reset seem to help you out.
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Did anyone else experience a complete nightmare with the latest firmware (4.6.3.16_2.0.51) on the RBR850 / RBR750?
It completely crashed my whole system. First the satellites disapeared. Then I did a full "new system" setup. It rebooted into Router Mode and everything was back to normal then I switched back into AP Mode (which I need) and once again no satellites!
This is really a big problem. I'm very frustrated with Netgear!
Does anyone have a similar situation with a solution. If you haven't "upgraded to v4 firmware....Don't.

Why did netgear push 4.6.3.16 to my router and satellites when on the support they have 4.6.3.6 for the router and 4.6.3.7 for the satellites??
The packages on the support site seem newer, should I upgrade to those? Can't believe NG is letting us down like this!! So frustrating.

v16 is most current and available for user manual download and installation.

Which Orbi system model do you have?

Did you connect your satellites to your Router via ethernet cable in AP mode?
Yup. Just like they have been for the past 6 months - prior to this firmware nightmare!
Really??? Im throwing 500 euros to the bin and switching to Linksys and never coming back, thanks guys!!! I cant do anything anymore since your firmware update! Ridiculous!!!
I feel exactly the same except I spent 1100! Check out Ubiquity access points instead. That's the route I'm going.
Sorry to hear that Kevin :(
It was great for 9 months! I cant believe this. In Ubiquiti for a medium size home/villa would you go with just the Access Point U6 Lite ??
Thanks

On 9/24/21, Netgear second level support called to gather more info specific to daisy chain no longer used for a satellite connection. My house is a wide, single level and the router has to be at one end of the house. One satellite is roughly in the middle and the last satellite is at the far opposite end. While on the 3x level of firmware, the far satellite would daisy chain from the middle node (there's actually line of sight of about 40 feet between the 2 satellites)
On FW 4.x both of the satellites homerun back to the router. While both show "good" and are stable, the performance at the far satellite is diminished. On FW 3.x, I had no issues streaming 2 x 4k videos from streaming services or my Linux media servers (hard wired at rbr) but on 4.x, only 1 stream can run without buffering. Subsequent to the update, one of the Rokus will only connect as 2.4 which might be part of the problem.
Over the course of the hour long call, they had me collect debug logs from the 3 nodes while running and also while booting.
They requested the serial numbers of the devices which makes me wonder if they are looking for a possible manufacturing issue that wasn't identified with their internal test beds.
The last time they requested debug logs it took a few weeks to get a follow-up so I guess I sit and wait.
I spoke ot them for a little over an hour.
Downgrading isn't supported nor will they help you however there is a workaorund by changing the code on the manual update page.
However as mentioned it forces a firmware upgrade 10 minutes after downgrading so back to square 1.
I solved the problem by blocking "up.netgear.com" on my firewall, that way the auto firmware update fails.
The support person told me Netgear have a new firmware coming "soon", and that they're aware of these problems.
btw, i'm using my Orbi with 1 satellite in AP mode.

Hi Everyone,
Looks like I've been hit by this dodgy Firmware too. I've had my Orbi 6 setup for 3 Months now and everything was working perfectly to the point I was going to sell off my old Linksys Velop kit.
Then I noticed some issues with one of the satellites not allowing clients to connect; I check the connection logs and see the new firmware was installed so I rebooted the Sat and now it just pulses white indefinitely. The other satellite is working OK.
I've factory reset everthing but the Sat is still pulsing white and not doing anything.
Has the firmware update bricked it?
