No network for 30-60 seconds when roaming between orbi wifi6 mini satelites

I have four orbi wifi6 mini devices, setup as AP (not router) to have a good network coverage.

It give the impression is works pretty well since my devices are never disconnected even when roaming from on device to another when moving in my house.

So far so good.

But even if the Wifi signal is always high and never shows disconnection, application requiring permanent streaming like Radio, Whatsapp calls, IP telephony, are on hold for 30-60 seconds everytime I switch to another orbi AP.

Other application like browsing the internet will not show the issue and work like a charm, since I imagine they generate new requests which are properly handled during this roaming step.

Same for those above, if I stop them and restart them, 1-2 seconds after roaming they restart immediately, not having to wait 30-60 seconds...

I tested Fast roaming option: same the signal is always better but still these application shows there is an issue...

Any idea what could explain this problem?

  • What firmware is the router and the satellites on?

What router is the Orbi connected to?

What modem/gateway is the primary router connected to?

Are the satellites hardwired in or using the wireless backhaul?

If wired in, what switch are they running through and how is everything wired?

      Firmware is the latest: V4.2.3.102

It is connected to my Internet provider router (Orange), which is therefore also hosting the DHCP service.

      The satellites are hardwired (all).

The SXR30 is plugged behind the Orange router and the SXS30 are plugged behind the SXR30, except one which is chained behind one of the SXS30. All are causing the same problem.

I hope this answers your questions.

        What orange router is it?

        So you have it going:

        gateway---->wan port on SXR30-----lan port----->SXS30's directly?

No switches and nothing else connected to the gateway?
Do you have wifi on the gateway disabled?

Could you identify the devices which exhibit this behavior?

(brand/model of phone, tablet, laptop, etc.)

      Hi CrimOn,

Thx for taking time to help.

I can't say if it happens on Pc's since we use them without moving... 😉

But it happens on all our smarphones. All Android, but Samsung (S21+, A53), Oneplus (Nord2), Huawei P30.

When not moving, the connection is stable at all location, no worry.

      BR,

      CEL

What happens if you put the livebox in passthrough mode and the orbi in router mode?

Or the livebox in router mode with the orbi's ip address in its dmz with the orbi in router mode?

Just seeing if somehow the livebox is causing issues
