On the brink of throwing away RBR750 system

The router's admin web page ALWAYS eventually goes unresponsive (timeout).

Sometimes it's ~3 days after a reboot; other times it's ~10 days, give or take a few days. It's rare it stays alive for more than 14 days.

The wifi network remains functional (for the most part). And all 3 satellites remain functional AND responsive on their admin web pages.

The tell-tale sign that the router admin web page is down is typically when HomeKit gear begins to behave oddly. So there is some amount of functional degradation, but what exactly, I don't know. No other user-impacting performance/functional problems are common when the problem occurs.

This has been going on for 9-12 months, across numerous firmware versions.

Before my premium support expired, those tech support sessions always ended with "re-flash your firmware, and call us if the problem happens again," which of course it always did.

I'd be completely overjoyed to set up an ongoing troubleshooting arrangement with a specific support engineer to finally get to the bottom of this. Otherwise, it's time to pull the trigger on the TP-Link Deco XE5300 system from Costco.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

How is FW being loaded on the RBS and RBR? Orbi app or manually thru a wired PC and web browser?

How many devices do you have connected?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.
I would power OFF the ISP modem for 1 minute. Factory reset the Orbi router and power it off. Power ON the ISP modem and let it sync. Then power ON the Orbi router and walk thru the setup wizard again using a wired PC and a web browser.
Press the back reset button for 15 seconds then release.

Enable SIP ALG as well on the RBR under Advanced tab/Setup/WAN Setup.

I appreciate your comments, but blasting a shotgun at the issue is not an effective strategy.

Is there actual historical evidence that demonstrates there is a connection between the web admin page going unresponsive, and:

      • the method of how firmware upgrades are performed?
      • the quality of the cable between the modem and router??
      • the ISP's modem???
      • the number of WIFI "neighbors" that exist (as if anything could be done about that)????

Or, is it the case that the best way to "troubleshoot" an Orbi system is to spray-n-pray a bevy of incantations and cross your fingers? If that's the case, then I'm getting rid of the system asap.

This is truly unusual. (First time I have seen this particular situation in almost six years on the forum.)

Would it be convenient to post a screen shot of the browser error message?

Is the web page being accessed by URL (htto://orbilogin.net ) or by the IP address of the router?

No response no matter which browser is used?

    wow.

A screenshot of a browser unable to connect to an unresponsive service would not be enlightening.

      Other data points:

      • the Orbi app is also unable to connect to the router when it’s in this state
      • all satellites remain responsive; browsing their admin pages works fine
      • neither DNS nor browser choice is the issue (testing w/ telnet to router IP address yields same results)

Plainly put, the router’s admin service (or stack) dies after N days. Hard power cycle resurrects functionality…until another N days.

You have managed to enable telnet on this router? The last I heard Netgear had removed telnet from all Orbi models.

Multiple browsers. Multiple computers.  Both http (port 80) and https (port 443) and all the usual web pages:

        http://<ip of orbi>

        http://<ip of orbi>/debug.htm

        http://<ip of orbi>/hidden_info.htm

All simply "time out" - no response at all.

That TP-Liink system looks like quite a deal. 6E, Parental Controls, for $289.99  Would probably want to spend some time on their user forum.  We know all about the shortcomings of the products we have, and close to zero about other brands.
