ORBI 860 CONNECTIVITY
I currently have an ISP who provides a router/modem and I am looking to replace this with an ORBI 860 setup. Please could I ask whether a modem will be required and which Netgear model is suitable? Thank you for any input…

Something to ask the ISP about.
The Orbi system doesn't have a modem built in so you'll need a modem of some form or have the ISP bridge there router or use the DMZ on there router for the Orbi system.
If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

Try option #2 first...- rossowheelwsAspirant
Thanks for your recommendation. The ISP will require me to return their equipment when the contract ends. I intend to then look for the cheapest provider who will probably send me their equipment to use. I would prefer to use my own modem and router going forward as my ISP will change over time. I have a larger property circa 4000sqft over two floors and standard routers don’t provide full coverage even with five extra discs.
Orbi with the RBR and two satellites should work well.
Good Luck.
