Orbi 960 and LIFX Bulbs

Latest version of firmware on Orbi.

Latest firmware on the LIFX bulbs

iPHONE 14 on WIFI - all the lights were initialised a year or so ago on a 2.4 ghz network so they are initialized correctly.

I have about 30 LIFX Bulbs -

I replaced a GOOGLE MESH network where everything worked a treat.

The LIFX bulbs dropped out of the new network and would not re-initialize.

I finally got up here and found out that the recommendation is that I change the 2.4 gig wireless to use channel 1 or 6 or 11 instead of auto - mine was defaulted to 9 - I changed it but the LIFX bulbs keep dropping off the network - they want to be off more than on.

I have turned off the AX features - using the WPA2 and WPA3 security as recommended -

I sure would like to have a recommendation on what works for anyone using the LIFX bulbs. The LIFX technical support is non-existant since they were purchased by FEIT lighting.

  • Orbi 960 series model?

Are you using the IoT network for these devices?

Possible having too many of these devices maybe causing problems.

Does one or a few work?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

      Orbi 960 series model?

I think it is called the 9600 model - the newest one in White.

Are you using the IoT network for these devices?  I am not - they were initialized on an SSID called Media with a password using my Google Mesh. When I went with Orbi I named the main SSID Medis again and used the same password so that I would not have to re-initialize my lights. it appears that everything EXCEPT my LIFX lights and my WEMO switches came back on line automatically - the WEMO and LIFX are sporadic.

They all worked fine on my google mesh.

Does one or a few work?  Yes - several do work but they drop off regularly.

What Firmware version is currently loaded? The latest - I do not know where to look in the application - but it says that there are not any firmware updates to be had.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? 5400 square feet. The Orbi says that it covers 9000 square feet with three units and I have the router plus three units so a total of four units.

I have good signal strength and the distances are good according to Orbi technical support.

Thank you for responding and any help you can give.

        Would be the 960 series.

Can you try enabling the IoT netowrk and move them to the IoT network

Can find the FW version number on the RBRs web page using a web browser.

Having too much wifi signal in a smaller size home can cause problems. I have a 5000sq ft home and run two and the power at 50 percent. https://youtu.be/UR0viMLISz4

I recommend reducing the RBS deployed by one at least.

ALso if you have 3 or more RBS deployed, change the CTS value back to 64. This helps with collisions between RBS and the RBR.

  • Besides disabling AX mode for 2.4Ghz, try setting your CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347 to maximize compatibility with older wireless devices:

    1. Go to the web admin portal at http://orbilogin.com/
    2. Click to the Advanced tab, Advanced left menu, Wireless Settings
    3. Set CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347 for both 2.4hz and 5Ghz networks
    4. Press Apply

      1. Go to the web admin portal at http://orbilogin.com/

I have to go to 192.168.86.1 as I have to adjust my router locally.

      1. Click to the Advanced tab, Advanced left menu, Wireless Settings

      Done

      1. Set CTS/RTS Threshold to 2347 for both 2.4hz and 5Ghz networks

Done - the value that was there was "64"

      1. Press Apply

Done - it does not appear to have changed anything - some WEMO switches came back on automatically - others did not - and about half still are not on line after an hour. I unplugged them and plugged them back in to reset them but still the same issue.

The LIFX bulbs are still dropping off the network and sometimes coming back on. I really do not want to have to go back to the GOOGLE mesh network if I don't have to, but I cannot have these switches off line and not able to get on line.
