Orbi RBK353 (RBR350 and 2 satellites) keep dropping in and out

Hi,

I've read a few threads related to this problem, but can't seem to follow a lot of them so thought I would ask for some help on here to see what others suggest. I recently purchased the Orbi RBK353 (which came with the RBR350 router and 2 satellites). I upgraded the firmware - as recommended by Netgear - but the wifi keeps dropping in and out every now and again. I've checked my ISP router/modem (which still emits wifi) and this appears to work fine. I've checked and plugged and unplugged wires/cables. All working ok.

The internet connection on my Orbis randomly will drop to non-existent (i jump onto speed test and it says can't connect/or very low speeds) through the satellites, before coming back on. This happens quite often now and I'm not sure what to do. I have looked at the front of the ISP modem/wifi whenever this has happened in the past, and this has a full working connection based on the display on the modem.

I see a few threads talking about daisy chaining, daylight savings settings to help with this, and manual channel selection (using a wifi analyser) but have no idea where to begin with any of this!

I've got a few more details below which may be helpful:

What Firmware version is currently loaded?    V4.4.1.29_3.10.80

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? UK based, Sky modem. Model number SR203

Internal size of home: 1350 sq ft/3 floor victorian (ground, first and second floor in the attic) house in UK. Narrow width of 15ft, length of each floor is c.30ft

What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 10-12ft. I am only using one satellite. The second satellite was/is in the attic on the second floor, but it keeps cutting out and then reconnecting again (flashing white light, and then blue light) so I've taken this offline for now and connect to the first floor satellite which is 10-12ft away from the router.

Set up wise I have my ISP router/modem in a box in the cupboard where my electronics are, and the RBR350 router in here too. The first floor has one satellite. The second floor has/had one satellite. They are all - largely - directly above/below one another if you were to line them up vertically on each floor of the house so 10-15ft away from one another.

Any help would be gratefully received! Thanks!

10-12 feet is WAY too close. 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. What happens if you turn OFF all RBS?

    Hello matches108,

    Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!

I understand that you are having disconnection issues with your RBR353. This can be due to there being two routers on the same network. Changing your RBR350 to AP mode has been proven to resolve issues with interim network disconnecting issues. Please change your RBR350 from router mode to AP mode.

Please follow the steps listed below to change your RBR350 from router mode to AP mode:

    • Select ADVANCED
    • Advanced Setup
    • Router / AP Mode.
    • Select AP mode
    • Then select "APPLY"

    Best,

    Kevin

Thanks guys, I am trying both and will keep you posted. I have moved the RBR out of the cupboard (per another suggestion I found on a different thread) and have initially set to AP mode to see what happens. I will report back in a couple of weeks...!
