Orbi RBK353 which includes RBR350 and 2 satellites keep intermittently dropping internet connection

The Orbi was perfect for the first 4 months of having it and now in the past 2 months it has just been intermittently dropping out of internet connection. Our devices connect to it fine but the orbi connection to the internet keeps dropping. Makes doing work at home and gaming a massive headache.

I had thought it may have been the cat cable being too kinked and angled against the wall and have moved to a better position which does not kink the cable anymore to ensure there isn't interference. This worked for a couple of hours where the connection was steady and then the internet began dropping again.

I'm located in New Zealand and have done the settings necessary as requested by my ISP with vlan bridge to 10 etc and the correct username and login for the internet. Anyone know a fix for this issue I'm experiencing right now or should I ask for a refund/exchange for a different mesh router system and any recommendations if so?

I've changed the cat5e that is in the box to another cable as the original one was attached with a lot of pressure within the network box and is slightly better now.

  • Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Orbi AX (WiFi 6) products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Orbi AX and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this "general Orbi" forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

    Thank you.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Ensure your use good quality LAN cables. CAT6 is recommended.

Looing at your picture, it would NOT be recommende to place the RBR inside a cabinate like that. Maybe leading to problems your seeing and also not good for air ventalation. Placement out in a open area on a desk or shelf is recommended in a open space.

      the catHi there!

It is currently running the newest firmware version V4.4.0.10_2.10.63 on the router and both satellites. I was previously using the Cat5E cable that came with the orbi but I believe that was kinked with the initial installation and replaced it with a new CAT5E cable and it seems to be more stable.

After NZ Lockdown is over I'll get a cat7 cable just to ensure everything will be consistent and rule out if it is the cable's issue or not.

The Model and manufacturer for the ONT is found here https://www.chorus.co.nz/q/model-type-200, it is the standard one issued to everyone in NZ.

The Orbi was perfectly fine in the network box for its initial 4 months or so, with zero minor ping spikes or constant disconnections. Devices always connect to the orbi fine so I don't believe its a device connection side issue rather it's more of an issue with orbi connecting to the ISP/internet it self

Contact the ISP and have them check the line and the ONT. Try different port on the ONT to the RBR.

Power OFF the ONT and RBR for 1 minute then back ON.

Try the RBR out side of that box cabinet.
