ORBI RBK753 and BT HOME HUB 2 as two routers

I am looking for some advice. I have FTTP with BT which comes with VOIP through the Home Hub2. I purchased the Orbi RBK753 system and have set it up in my house with the router function enabled rather than in AP mode as I was thinking of isolating my IoT devices as recommended by Security Analysts. This means there are two routers in the system with the Orbi RBR750 router connected to the BT home hub 2 via the Gb ethernet port. The reason for not switching off the Orbi router is that I want to put all my IOT devices (Home Hub, Cameras, Lights) on the BT Router side and all my infrastructure like NAS and Laptops on the Orbi side thus isolating them on separate networks. My question is, how can I enable to access the IoT devices through devices like tablets & phones on the Orbi side of the network? e.g things like airplay to my Homepod after I move the IoT hubs on to the BT Router side. I have a some knowledge of networking and feel I need an experts advice on the setup to allow this to happen.

  • thats the problem with having them on seperate subnets when you're not using a proper vlan setup.

If the IoT device is smart enough it can route through its own web server. But some (many) aren't.

You can always try putting the netgears IP address into the bt home's DMZ. doubt it'll work but it might.

Your other option is to use the netgears guest ssid. Put the IoT devices on the guest network. many people try th at.
