Orbi RBR 850 and Australian NBN
Hi, this is my first post here. My question is can an Orbi RBR 850 connect directly to an Arris CM8200 Cable Modem? I'm in Australia, and my current setup is a NBN Arris Cable modem connected to my ISP's(Telstra) own Smart Modem/Router Gen.2 with my Orbi RBR 850 hard wired to the Telstra Smart Modem/Router via ethernet.I haven't placed the Telstra Modem into bridge mode, just turned the wifi off on it. The Orbi is in router mode and everything seems to work well for the past year or more. I'd like to remove the Telstra Smart Modem from the equation now to allow a music App.(Roon Arc), to access my home system remotely. At present, with the current setup, I can't do that.I am looking for a really simple work around .I am not a network techy type. I'm figuring if I just have the Orbi connected directly to the NBN Black Box (ArrisCM8200), all conflicts, double Nat's and anything else may be removed. Does anyone have direct experience with connecting an Orbi RBR850 directly to their NBN black box? Is it a straight forward procedure or do setting need to be changed? I'd appreciate any input
thanks
James

Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop- jobyfamTutor
Thanks for prompt reply. Yeah, I've seen all these options over the last few weeks of investigating . What I was asking is whether I can remove the ISP's Smart Modem/router all together, and connect the Orbi directly into the NBN Cable Modem which is upstream from the ISP's Smart Modem/Router. As mentioned, at present my setup is NBN Cable modem(Arris CM8200), downstream to ISP's Smart Modem/Router(not in bridge mode, just wifi disabled), downstream to Orbi RBR850 (+ satellite). Works fine.
thanks again
Will take just a minute to find out, as long as the Orbi is in 'router' mode. My guess is, "certainly."
