Orbi RBR850 will not connect to Starlink

I know there are a lot of other posts on this subject, but they all lead to a solution of adding a switch in between the Orbi and Starlink - which did not work for me.

Things I've tried:

  1. Putting Starlink in bridge mode and connected Orbi to the Starlink network adapter - didn't work.
  2. Not putting Starlink in bridge mode and connect Orbi to the Starlink network adapter - didn't work
  3. Purchased a GS108T - connected it to Starlink and Orbi to it using Orbi "Internet" port - didn't work
  4. Purchased a GS108T - connected it to Starlink and Orbi to it using Orbi normal port - didn't work
  5. Remove all other connections from Orbi and just connect from Orbi to the Starlink network port - didn't work

The only time I thought I got close was when I moved all network cables from the Orbi to the switch - then connected from a normal port on the Orbi to the switch - it worked for a few minutes then died - Starlink kept going offline.

If you have successfully used a switch in between Orbi and Starlink could you take pictures of the ports for both and send them over. I might be connecting it wrong.

I'm not sure what else to try. I am not a defeatist so will continue to ponder this. If anyone has any further thoughts and/or ideas please send them over. Orbi is awefully expensive for it to not work with Starlink.

Cheers

Steve

  • Did you try connecting the orbi to the starlink but put the orbi in access point mode? (have starlink in router mode)

Good point - I have not - I'll try that this evening. Does it matter which port I use on the Orbi, since one is labelled internet?

Oh jeez - I just noticed that I have the PPPoE username and password configured for the current ISP ...sigh.  I'm going to reset that to not require a login and see if that allows me to connect in bridge mode, if not perhaps the switch will work this time.

Question on the port though. I have two available ports for the external connection:

        • Internet port (2.5Gbps)
        • WAN aggregation (2.5Gbps + 1 Gbps, LACP-IEEE802.3ad)

Does it matter which one I select?

        Cheers
