ORBI RBR853 not connecting to 5ghz

Very strange issue, can't find solution anywhere.

I have RBR850 since a long time, always fine. Lately saw performance drop in speed, checked and realised when I connect to the mail router and not one of the two satellites I only get the 2.4 ghz channel 6 from any device (iPhone, Macbook, etc.).

Took me a while to figure out it was not the entire network working on 2.4 ghz but just the main router. How did that happen and how could I possibly fix it?

All devices are on firmware V4.6.3.16_2.0.51

Many thanks

  • Its your device itself (phone, tablet, etc) that decides whether to connect to the 2.4ghz or the 5ghz.

Have you done a wireless scan to ensure the router is broadcasting on 5ghz? (not using the built-in scanner but a 3rd party one like inssider or winfi)

Thank you, I just did and that's what I got, it's attached.

      What does it mean?

I always used channel 40 for 5ghz, and as I sai if I move away from the main router to one satellite that's the network and channel my device would connect

  • You might try updating FW to v.2 thats posted in this forum on the RBS first then RBR lastly.
