ORBI RBS850 update of Firmware from V4.6.3.16_2.0.51 to V4.6.7.13
I received an email from Netgear that there was an important Security Firmware update for my RBR850 system and I should update. I went to the Advanced / Administration / Firmware update section of the ORBI Netgear application on MACPro MacOS 10.14 for my Router and the check said there were no updates for my router or satellites. I then went to the ORBI support page for my Router and it said that V4.6.7.13 is the update to my router. Since the auto update did not seem to be up to date ( has happened before,) I went ahead with the manual update process for one of my two RBS850S satellites ( it said to do the satellites first.) The update went through the process but after it was complete my satellite was no longer recognized by the router or the ORBI program. I tried powering the 850S off and on and syncing to the router to no avail. I directly connected the 850s to the 850R Via an ethernet cable and was able to see the router as an attached device with an IP address but it was not listed as a Satellite. However, It had devices attached to it which could not get to the internet as that capability was with the router and it obviously was not communicating/connecting to the router. I cannot downgrade the firmware because it does not show this 850s as a satellite and since it is not connected to the 850R- nothing I know of can be done to change the firmware. I considered that the lack of connection might be due to the difference in the 850R and 850S firmware but I do not want to try the firmware update on the remaining 850R or 850S as I need my network and am limping along on the two devices. Since my devices are out of warranty I cannot get support for NETGEAR's problem. I did not see anything in their Community or KB that were of any help. This is not the first time Netgear support has been non-existent and I don't know how to get help with what has been caused by them. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
ORBI RBS850 update of Firmware from V4.6.3.16_2.0.51 to V4.6.7.13
I tried a initial install with the same results, router and one satellite OK. I decided to try to update the firmware on the remaining satellite and the router hoping that it was a firmware incompatibility issue.. The satellite took a longggggg time to go from 99% to up and running (20 minutes.) After the updates and powering all 3 of the units off and on, everything came up roses - so it must have been a firmware incompatibility from
V4.6.3.16 to V4.6.7.13. This issue can be closed.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?
For future FW updates, I recommend following the manual FW update process, download the FW files. Update the RBSs first using there web page, then update the RBR lastly using it's web page.

Thanks for your response. I have done several factory resets of the Router and 2 satellites to no avail. I have not tried a base reinstall, which I assume you mean both router and satellites, and will try that though there are no specific instructions on how to do a base install from an operating configuration. I assume just unplug everything and start with the read QR code on the 850RBR.
When I did the satellite firmware upgrade it was a manual upgrade using the exact instructions referenced in your reply. When I went to status (last step) there was nothing there.
I will write an update on what happens as long as I can get my internet connection up and running.
What web browser did you use?
Did you update the RBSs Fw using the RBS web page or thru the RBRs web page?
I recommend using a web browser and PC to setup the RBR first after a factory reset. Walk thru the setup wizard here, skip adding the RBS. Once the RBR is setup, then take one RBS at a time, while near the RBR or in same room and wirelessly sync the RBS to the RBR. Wait for the front LED to turn BLUE then OFF. Once off, so same for 2nd RBS. Once fully synced and checked, power off the RBS and place back in to normal remote locations.
