ORBI WIFI 6 struggling with security cameras to connect all
Hi Netgear users
I am in NZ and have around 20 security cameras, 3 different models all the same make. They seem to struggle to all stay connected. Indoor and outdoor cameras. House is only 100 sq mtrs so not a band width issue I don't think. I never have more than 28 devices connected at any one time as some cameras are battery and only start up when triggered by an event (17 battery CAMs). The rest are plugin. For this type of application do I need some sort of extender? It should be able to handle this amount of devices, shouldn't it?

- microchip8MasterHow are they spread over the sattelites? Don't put all of them on a single one

Hi
I don't have them spread over mesh the router is supposed to support way over 30 devices. They are all within range.
It is a bit unusual to discuss an Orbi WiFi6 system with no satellites. (The whole point of the Orbi product line being the WiFi "mesh".)
Still interested in knowing which cameras are involved and what the symptoms are.
It would also help to know
- The shape of the house.
- Where the Orbi router and the cameras are located.
- Building construction. (Any brick/concrete walls?)
- Are all cameras affected equally, or do certain cameras appear to be affected more than others?
- How do the cameras and the WiFi system report their WiFi connection?
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.20 cameras is a lot.
How many RBS are deployed?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Battery powered cameras typically have relatively low bandwidth requirements. (Even 4K cameras typically require about 10Mbps bandwidth. So, 20 high end cameras should not be a struggle for a typical WiFi system.)
I did not see specifics about the Orbi WiFi6 system that is installed, how it is configured, and where cameras are placed in relation to the Orbi units. It would also be helpful to know which specific cameras are involved.
What is the symptom of this "struggle to stay connected"? Do they fail to record motion events? Are they unable to record events to a vendor cloud storage? Does the smartphone app claim they cannot be found?
Because of the low bandwidth requirement, it is also common for battery powered cameras to include only 2.4G WiFi. The 2.4G WiFi band is more prone to interference and capacity issues than the 5G band. (one reason for wanting to know which cameras are involved.)
- MescalAspirantIts the battery powered cameras which are having issues. They only work when triggered.
When I want to view them from my mobile when I am away the battery ones are sometimes failing to connect. Not all just some, not always the same ones.
The router is provided by my Internet provider.
The house is 100 sq mtrs.
The house is a only 8 years old and constructed of wood. No concrete or brick
What I want to know is do I need a satellite or extender to mitigate this issue. What Firmware version is currently loaded on the Orbi system?
