Orbi850 and power loss

I have two RBR850s connected to a Netgear modem (one upstairs and the satellite downstairs). (A few years old). I have Alexa’s set up over the townhouse which always works fine EXCEPT when there is a power outage.  At those times the Orbis sometimes find the devices and sometimes not. Very frustrating. I end up deleting devices (lights mostly) and reinstalling them which takes time. (Usually power goes on in the middle of the night and every light goes on. Not sure if that’s fixable)

I am considering upgrading my old modem to the NETGEAR Nighthawk Cable Modem with Built-in WiFi 6 Router (CAX80).  If I do upgrade will that solve my issues when the power goes off?

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

So you have two RBR850s? Or is it one RBR850 and one RBS850?

    What are these Alexa devices?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

      Modem: CM1000

Orbis: one RBR850 and one RBS850

      7.2.6.31 firmware.

Alexas Fire Tv and Echo 8s.   Hue lights.   Devices will sometimes lose the WiFi for the Orbis and I’ll have to go to the Guest WiFi.

      Cable is good.

Home is two floor townhome about 1,300 sf.   Main router upstairs and satellite downstairs.

Everything usually works flawlessly until power outage. Which happens not infrequently. This last time really screwed things up.

Nighthawk combo help with that or same issues?

Is this a new problem that appeared or has been on going for a long time?

Happened on prior version of FW?

There are posters with experiences reporting that v.31 has not been good for them.

  • It might be an issue of start up and not getting an initial connection if the orbi is up and running while the modem isn't.

Try powering off the alexa's, orbi, and modem. Then boot up modem, give it a couple minutes to fully boot, then the orbi (couple minutes again), and then try the alexa's.

Yes, I do that and most times it will help after restarting everything two or three times but most all times I’m left with a Hue light or two that needs to be rediscovered.  Annoying.  L

  • Thanks for all of the help!   I guess I should’ve emphasized that I was wondering if having the all in one Nighthawk CAX80 would be a good option to avoid these issues in the future.  Or does it not play well with Amazon and Hue products?
