Purple light RBR850 - constant losing Internet connection
Hello!
I have a RBR850 and RBS850 Mesh system. Since a while, it really often loses the Internet connection. At least it alleges so. The Internet is coming in via a cable connection to an outdoor 5G router (Zyxel NR7101). The connection uptime there is good/consistent and does certainly not correspond to the frequent dropping of the Internet connection on the Orbi. I have tried a factory reset, reset the router, all to no avail. It happens all the time and at random moments. Sometimes it doesn't happen for a while, like a few hours, and sometimes it is just losing the connection, coming back, and loses it again all in less than 5 minutes. Sometimes it just remains purple for 10 minutes. I am getting very frustrated and about to throw the system out, the problem is other mesh systems couldn't provide the strong wireless backhaul connection to the satellite.
I am thinking it maybe has to do with allocation of IP addresses by the Zyxel and Orbi. That they conflict each other from time to time for whatever reason. I am no expert, but DHCP is switched on both devices. That is good, no? Any other ideas??

This is not likely to be the problem. With both the Zyxel and Orbi configured as 'routers', the Zyxel will assign one private IP address to the Orbi router and the Orbi router will assign addresses in a different IP subnet to every device connected to the Orbi. Thousands of users have their customer router connected to an ISP router and experience no problems. (There are specific applications that can be affected by having "two routers" and there are ways to address this Double NAT in those cases.)
I'm guessing you have a copy of the Zyxel User Manual:
https://download.zyxel.com/NR7101/user_guide/NR7101_Version%201.00.pdf
Page 107 describes options for managing the home network. It appears that only certain Zyxel models support "bridge" (or "passthrough") mode.
I was not successful in finding reference to a log file that might indicate problems with the LTE connection that would correspond to entries in the Orbi log file about network interruptions. It might be worth asking Zyxel tech support how to do so.
Might see if the ISP router has a DMZ option for the RBRs IP address it gets. Your in a double NAT condition. The DMZ will help with this.
Or try AP mode on the Orbi system.
