Random ghost satellite driving me mad.
I recently upgraded my home internet to 2GB. After doing so, I purchased Netgear multi-gig unmanaged switches for the house. In order to take advantage of the higher speed, I direct connected one of ...

Got a screen capture of this? Yes. Notice the ghost has no hardware version, no firmware version, and no serial number.
Is this the Orbi 960 series you have tagged?
- This is one router, and three satellites. (RBRE960 + (3) RBSE960's)
What is the model #'s of these switches you have in use?
- NETGEAR 5-Port Multi-Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Network Switch (MS105) - with 5 x 1G/2.5G
Did you first synce the RBS to the RBR before ethernet connecting them?
- Yes, it was synced showing "GOOD" before it was wired in.
If you bring the RBS near or in same room as the RBR and ethernet connect them there, does this ghost satellite appear still?
- YES. Note the ghost sat ONLY appears when it is connected to 2.5GB switch. I have a second sat wired in on a 1GB switch and this issue is not present on that one. Only on the 2.5GB switch.
3500 sq feet the RBR and just one RBS should work however depending on building materials, two maybe needed with lowering the power on the RBR to say 50% and check.
- I have not adjusted the power settings, so they will be at default. I am not sure I understand your point, so i will have to look into it. My home is beyond insulated and I have had wireless signal issues through three different WiFi networks since we moved in.
What Firmware version is currently loaded?
- V6.3.7.10 on everything.

So if you take the MS model switch out of the mix does the ghost RBS disappear?
CAT6A STP is recommended.
Your behind on FW as well:
Sounds like a issue being caused by this one particular model switch. You happen to have a spare 1Gb non managed switch to put in the MS switches place to check this?

I check for updates every time I log into it, including last night. So they report no update needed. I just checked again, and the same thing. So I guess I have to update them manually now? They used to auto update. That is stupid if I have to do it one by one manually.
I thought the same thing about the switch, so I bought two more 2.5GB switches a few days ago from TP Link to try, and swapped the main one out in the closet, and the one the sat with the ghost is connected to, and the ghost was still there even after a reboot and a sync.

Yes. Some FW updated have to be manually updated.
If you do, RBS first, then RBR lastly.
Lets try a FW update...

I will grab and update the FW tonight and report back.

As far as I am aware, Netgear does not publish documentation on how firmware updates are managed. (leaving customers to speculate about "what's going on") There appears to be a distinct pattern:
- Firmware appears on the support web site. For this product the most recent firmware is from Oct 6, 2023:
https://kb.netgear.com/000065814/RBRE960-RBSE960-Firmware-Version-7-2-6-21-for-all-regions-except-Europe
Notice that the announcement mentions - Some customers actively watch the support site and manually update firmware. Since this post is specifically about the router-satellite connection, perhaps it would be worth doing a manual firmware update to see if "anything changes".
- I have seen new firmware remain in this "do what you want" state for months (and months). Eventually, Netgear usually "does something" so that the customer routers detect the new firmware and offer to update. Most of the AX series Orbis now have a customer option to allow (or prevent) Netgear from automatically updating firmware. (My older Orbi lacks this option.)
- At some point, Netgear may decide to push the update to customers, which the Terms and Conditions say they have the right to do.

Since the point of the 2.5G switches is to gain access to the 2G ISP connection through a satellite, does it appear to have 'worked'? i.e. does a speed test through that satellite show performance greater than 1Gbps?
