RBK353 (RBR350 / RBS350) unstable wireless backhaul
Anone else suffering from unstable wireless backhaul on RBK353 ?
- Symptoms: teams calls freeze up for 2-10 seconds, several times per day, while the satellites starts blinking and resynchronizes. And every now and then (+/- weekly) a device is needed.
- What did I try to fix it ? move satellites closer, move satellite further away. Work with only 1 satellite (iso 2). Lower signal strength on 2,4 Ghz. Lower sgnal strength on 5 Ghz. Fixed channel on 2,4 Ghz (cannot choose on 5 Ghz). Short or long preambule, ... and many combinations of above.
- Only stable working solution found so far: connect router & satellites via ethernet cable, and it works like a charm ... but the reason for buying this setup was also to not have to put cables everywhere... even with a powerline in between it works much more stable than with the satellite over wireless backhaul.
Feels like a waste of money. I was so fed up with it, that I am now using only the RBR350 as router, the satellites are put away, and a simple wifi extender is used to connect an ethernet-only device, and to extend the network with acceptable speed.
Anyone else suffering from this ? bright ideas ?

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set CTS to 2347. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings
Is Armor or IPv6 enabled?
Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Orbi AX products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Orbi AX (WiFi6 RBK 3,7,8 and 9 Series) products. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Hi,
Thanks for your response – below you find my feedback on your suggestions. a
Your suggestions were not new to me (had seen them before already) and what was possible had been tested already.
The problem is really in the wireless backhaul.
- When using the RBR alone (with the satellites disconnected), the system is fast and stable.
- With the RBR & 2x RBS connencted through powerline adapters, the system is slower but stable enough.
- With the RBR & 2x RBS through wireless backhaul, it is giving a few interruptions per day (sometimes more, sometimes less). Only noticeable when doing calls, but that is unfortunately a major part of my working day. Superfast, but with those interrupts making it really unacceptable for my use.
Below the answers:
- What Firmware version is currently loaded? V4.4.0.10_2.10.63
- What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too? > – Belgian operator TELENET – docsis 3.0 modem- What is the size of your home? Sq Ft? > About 1800 sq ft, over 3 floors. Seperate house with neighbours around.
- What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. – > anything between 20 and 50 feet was tried.- What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz.
- Auto was tried, and on this model there is no option to change thannel on 5 Ghz manually, unfortunately.
- Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz. > These main channels were all tried for 2.4 Ghz, but as mentioned no option to choose with 5 Ghz
- Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many? > Yes there are about 8 neighbouring wifi’s. Channels were scanned, strongest are the orbi’s channels.
- Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. > coexistence has been tested “turned on” and “turned off”
- Set CTS to 2347. > CTS is not something that can be chosen in the management screen unfortunately. It has been tested with short and long preamble, with no success.
- Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). > tried that several times
- Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings - Is Armor or IPv6 enabled? > no, is being used in AP mode without Armor.

I would reach out to NG support and ask for a beta build of FW. I've seen other 3 series users posting about problems and was able to contact NG support and was given new FW to try which seems to have solved some of these problems.
