RBK852 one satellite down after manual upgrade to latest firmware 7.2.7.15

Own Orbi RBK852 and added an additional RBS850. System was working fine with both satellites showing up in the app and web console and both satellites having devices connected to them.

Manually updated RBR850 to 7.2.7.15. Manually uploaded both satellites to the same firmware. Everything went well. Next day while I'm at work, my wife says hey stuff is showing offline (Google home max, ring doorbell cams etc. Login to the app both satellites red and offline.

Come home from work, remove the both satellites and one at a time reset them and add them. Only the original satellite connects and shows in the app. The other satellite goes through the process, shows blue light solid, but does not show up in the console.

Considering downgrading firmware because everything was working fine before and have an old 3 story farmhouse built in 1900 so need the third satellite.

Any ideas? Or just downgrade the firmware?

  • The Orbi AX products appear to be very sensitive to the sequence of firmware updates.

Satellites done first.  Router done last.

It appears that you did exactly this and the system reported all units on the same firmware.

Does the missing satellite appear on the web interface Attached Devices display as "Disconnected"?

I did exactly opposite of that. Updated the router first then the satellite. I'll reset and try again

Always update the RBS first, then the RBR lastly when manually updating FW on Orbi systems.

I tried it the way you suggested, and the satellite was still missing, so I ended up downgrading the firmware, and everything came back up.  Looks like firmware 7.2.7.15 is broken!
