RBK853 - won’t connect to network but connects to guest

I have the RBK853, replaced an Airport system. Used the same network name but different password. My daughter brought her Chromebook home for the first time this year, new machine and never been in our home. It won’t connect to the primary wireless but it WILL connect to the guest network. Password confirmed multiple times and other devices will connect with same info. Any ideas?
there are some other devices that have been in the house with the old Airport system that seem to be having trouble with the new network - these seem to be struggling with a new network, same name, different password.

should I just rename the new network and go through the trouble of connecting everything again?

  • Are you using any special character in the ssid/password?

    If so, remove them.

also, have you tried disabling AX? Could be the chromebook having issues with AX.

    Hi Dombekgt ,

Does primary ssid and guest ssid have same name ?

As I know, router can't set same name for those.

    Thanks.

      Hello iyang,

      Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!

The SSID for the guest network does not have to be the same as the SSID for your main network.

The guest WiFi name (SSID) must be different from the primary WiFi SSID. This is not an option.  Imagine that your house and another house on the street have the same street number, say 1202. and you tell Amazon to deliver to "1202".  Which house do they go to?

The difference can be as little as a single character, but they must be different.

Main and guest network do not have the same name, that came from a comment not my original question.

    Thanks.
