Nov 15, 2023RBR 850 All internet Slower Than Input
I have an RB or 850. All of a sudden I am losing network speed. When connecting the ethernet cable directly to the input side of the router I am getting nearly 1 Gb speed when I plug it into the router and connect to one of the output ports I am getting 10% of the speed. I have done reset. I've also done factory reset. Armor has been turned off. The Wi-Fi is also less than 10% of the speed download approximately 60 Mb upload 90 Mb unplug the 850 and plugged directly into the service providers ethernet and I am getting 900 Mb down and 650 up. Like I said I have disconnected everything I have reset the router's including factory reset but it seems like the or be router is the only remaining bottleneck.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.- Retired_Member
using Cat8 cables LIKE I SAID !!! input to the router (orbi rkr 850) is nearly a gigabit but the out put is only 100 megabit the router is losing 90% of its speed and it is LOST AT THE ROUTER

Try a different ethernet connected PC connected AT THE ROUTER to compare results.

A speed of "just under 100Mbps" is often the result of an Ethernet connection issue. When modern devices are connected, they auto negotiate the highest speed that they both support.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation
This is done by the Ethernet adapter hardware. (built into the 'guts' of the electronics)
This situation appears to indicate that one of the Ethernet links has determined that 100Mbps is the highest speed that is supported on this link.
The most obvious difference between 100Mbps and 1000Mbps Ethernet is that 100Mbps uses only two pairs of wire, whereas 1000Mbps requires all four pairs. It could be that the cable is defective. Or, one of those tiny gold wires in the RJ45 jack could be bent or not making good contact.
I did not see in the original message what speed the Orbi router reports. (perhaps I missed it). i.e.
- The Orbi Speed Test, which is described on page 106 of the User Manual:
https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBK852/RBK852_UM_EN.pdf - The connection rate that the router shows for the physical Ethernet ports (WAN and LAN), which is displayed on the Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab home page, when selecting the BLUE box Show Statistics.
If a link has been negotiated to 100M/Full, then the highest data rate that can be achieved is "just under" 100Mbps.
(There is overhead in Ethernet which makes exactly 100Mbps impossible.)
Could you humor an Old Guy and report:
- What the Orbi Speed Test reports, and
- What the Show Statistics display reports?
Thanks
