RBR350 Performance Woes

Hi there

I had an ORBI RBK50 with two satellites that were ethernet backhauled.

Absolutely loved it until it bricked itself one day. I ran down to the store and bought an AX1800 RBR350.

I run in router mode. ethernet backhaul, same network name etc

Since then I have the following issues:

1) WIFI is awful.  when I unlock my iPhone and attempt to browse (the news for example) nothing happens, and I mean nothing...... if I turn the wifi on the phone off and on then suddenly works.

2) I can be working from home and suddenly everything connected to the WIFI loses the WIFI.  If I attempt to connect my phone to the network WIFI I get a spinning circle and nothing.  That is until I reboot the router and suddenly we are good again....

3) I used to be able to play my PS5 games via my MacBook using the playstation remote play. No on the RBR350 it is not at all playable, even if I dial down the quality and frame rates as low as possible.

Lastly, when I reach out to get support I get told to log on and change the 2.5 and 5G channels. But all of 2 mins on these pages shows that you are NOT able to change the 5G channel......

Is the RBR350 just a really poor piece of rubbish or is there something I am doing wrong?

Thanks (and apologies for the soapbox)

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

Be sure you don't have the older RBS50s connected.

    How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

Ya, the 5Ghz channel can't be changed on the 350 series.

The 350 series was NGs low budget entry for the Orbi system. I'd recommend a 750 series to be honest.

      house is 3300 square feet.

two Satellites but both ethernet backhauled.

Service Provider: Aussie Broadband (Fibre to the premise)

They are in exactly the same locations (router included) as the old setup.  Old setup has been removed.

I have 27 devices connected. most notably

      • 2 Arlo Cameras recording to cloud
      • multiple Apple Home enabled devices (pool controllers, 3 garage door controllers)
      • 4X phones, 6xmacbooks, 6xkindles 1xps5 1xdell laptop, 6x google pods, dishwasher and washing machine connected to wifi too..

The issue I have is everything is in the same spot and the same devices are all connected.  I had thought that buying such a newer model of orbi would mean an improvement in performance and capability but it appears that I have less bandwidth and capability which is why the dropouts.  There is quite a bit in these forums about this model and dropouts on the wifi too...

      hope that all makes sense
