RBR750 Satellites Disconnected and Not
Model: RBR750
Firmware: V7.2.6.31_5.0.24
The Situation
- 1 satellite has internet connection with ethernet cable
- 1 satellite perpetually blinks white
- 0 satellites shown connected to the router
I'm trying to wrap my head around this. The system initially worked well when it was installed December '23. At some point, it became apparent that all devices were connecting to the main router and the satellites were disconnected. The problem is that some devices are getting low connection speeds (sub 60 mbs) across the house, which the orbi was brought in to solve. I've periodically attempted troubleshooting this, with no success. I've attempted factory resets, on all devices, connecting all devices in the same room then moving them to their respective locations... I'm not sure what else I should be looking at. I can't view the firmware of the satellites because they don't show up on the app or the Orbi admin site. What seems bazar is the one satellite that is clearly connecting (getting 400+mbs no less) but doesn't show registered as a connected device at all. Maybe I performed the factory reset incorrectly? I have no idea. Looking for some advice and guidance. I'd hate to have to replace the system, but that's what I'm looking at this point on.
Thanks,
Jay

It would be helpful to know how the satellites are connected to the router.
- Both using the default WiFi backhaul connection?
- One or both 'wired' to the router? (If so, exactly how does the Ethernet cable run. From which port on the router to which port on each satellite. Is there an Ethernet switch involved?)
The Orbi AX products appear to be sensitive to the specific firmware version on each unit. If the router and satellites are not on the same firmware release, weird things happen.
Since you cannot access the satellite currently, it might be worth investing the time to follow this procedure to learn which firmware is on each satellite and (if necessary) manually install firmware to match the router:
It is a tedious process, but the alternative is...... ?

For the setup, I have a PC connected to a satellite via ethernet cable. I have to imagine that the satellite is connecting to the router via the backhaul, otherwise I it wouldn't explain the 400+mbs when downloading and uploading. Also, I haven't changed any settings around the backhaul, so I have to assume this is the case. And thanks for the firmware advice. I've been seeing other community posts suggesting this may be the culprit. I'll try to sync the firmware between the router and satellites and see if this clears up issues.
CrimpOn Thanks.
The reason for the question is that several users have created a 'situation' by connecting their router and satellites with Ethernet cables to a switch and found that although "things seem to work", the router did not display information correctly about the satellites.
Since both of your satellites are connecting to the router with the default WiFi backhaul connection (no Ethernet cables), this is not likely to be the problem. Please report what happens when you go through the process to discover what firmware is running on the satellites.
