RBR850 router receives at 2.5 Gbps, transmits under 1.0 Gbps - wireless and ethernet ports.
So I just upgraded to 2.0 Gbps fiber internet service (from 1.0 Gbps).
I connect from the provided Nokia ONT to my Orbi router. But when connecting a client -- wired via Orbi's ethernet ports, or wireless -- I can achieve no more than 950 Mbps. This is the same as before.
To troubleshoot: I plugged the ONT directly into my MacBook Pro and consistently got 2.2 to 2.3 Gbps. Furthermore, the Orbi itself registers 2.1 to 2.2 Gbps incoming and outgoing directly to the ONT, when testing using the Netgear Insight app.
I then tested the output of the Orbi, using Cat 6E and by placing the laptop within 2 feet of the Orbi router. The speed dropped dramatically. The MacBook is fully capable of higher speed both WiFi and wired.
Are there settings that are throttling down the output speeds of the Orbi router? Thank you.

here is what I have: https://a.co/d/12KQrcI
the marketing is great: touting 6 Gbps wireless speed, but also only 1 G wired ports. So part of my question is answered.

So an Orbi 853, not a SXR80.
Note this was launched back in late 2019, so about 6 year old tech. Still a good option, but as you say, no multigig LAN ports.
The newer 873 has multigig LAN ports (as does the less expensive 373).

I'm guessing the wireless speed is what is left?
WiFi specs for the various MacBook Pro models are here:
Can you give more detail on what you have? (processor, year, and and screen size will pin down which spec is relevant for your model).
Note these specs (both for the Orbi and the MacBook) are theoretical physical maximums. Actual throughput will be less. Also, in the case of the Orbi, the spec is the max with multiple clients - not the max for a single client.
