RBR850/RBS850 multiple problems since the firmware 7.2.6.31 update

I have the RBR850 router with (5) RBS850 satellites (large property).  My devices are set for the firmware updates to happen automatically which doesn't appear to work correctly.  Based on this recent update and a previous update, the router gets updated and either none or only one satellite gets updated.

I started having problems a few weeks ago with only one satellite showing connected on the map and not being able to connect laptops, phones, & ipads to any wifi.  After rebooting a few times and other troubleshooting, I realized the satellites had a different firmware than the router.  This also happened the last time there was an update a little over a year ago.  As I had done in the previous update, I manually logged in to each satellite and did the firmware update.  All have been updated & rebooted but only one is showing back up on the map.  When I go to the connected devices, 2 of the satellites are showing up as routers (one is wired & shows as wired, the other is wireless but shows as wired).  Two other satellites do not show up at all.  I can connect to all 5 satellites via their IP address and confirm the correct firmware.

These are the satellites & status:

1)  gameroom-wired, shows on network map, IoT devices are connecting but not laptops, iphones or ipads.

2)  office-wired, shows on connected devices but not network map, no wired or wireless devices can connect

3)  master bedroom - wireless, shows on connected devices but not network map, no devices can connect

4)  outdoor kitchen - wireless, connected & working fine (thank god one is working)

5)  barn - wired- shows on map in red as not connected.

I have rebooted everything multiple times.  I tried deleting and "adding" one of the satellites (master bedroom), it turns blue, then goes white, and then back to the same status as noted above.  BTW, all the satellites when I reboot go solid blue, then light off (no magenta).  We have also rebooted the laptops, iphones & ipads and they still will not connect except for the outdoor kitchen or if you are near the router.   All worked fine for the last year+ since that last fiasco of the previouls update.  If I get this working, the automatic updates will be turned off.  I am at a loss of what to do next to get everything back working.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Users have posted seeing issues with v.31. Even after troubleshooting was exhausted. So we recommend to downgrade back to v.21 on the RBS first then RBR lastly. Factory reset and setup from scratch. Disable the auto update check on the RBR, then you'll be good. v.21 is most stable version.

Thanks for the feedback.  If that is the option I end up needing to take, I will never buy Netgear again.  This update and the previous update were VERY disruptive.  If a restaurant, an airline, or other provider screwed up this bad with this kind of disruption/failure, I would at least get a meal or flight comp....what is Netgear doing to compensate it's customers that spent several hundreds or thousands of $$$ on a product that they SCREW UP with a crappy update that makes our smart homes effectively shutdown.  INEXCUSABLE!

        Not the first time.

v.21 was beta tested by others outside of internal testing and got good results. v.31 was not tested in beta so, thus failed.

Long history of failures we've been trying to help avoid. đꙄ

Airlines and restaurants are not going to be using home class systems.

        Good luck.
