RBRE960 and No-IP / Port Forwarding

Hello all -

I switched today from an ASUS mesh router system to Orbi.

Since switching, none of the PCs on the network that run NO-IP's Dynamic Update Client have been able to connect to their hosts. I click the "edit hosts" button and nothing opens. I am not having this issue on PCs that are outside of this network, so I assume something in the Orbi settings are preventing this from working.

I can directly connect using the external IP and the port, so I know the ports are open, but I would prefer not to have to remember an IP.

I attempted to use the Dynamic DNS settings in the router, but have never had to use those anywhere else before, and did not have any better results when trying that.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

I don't think that your Orbi (router) can break the Windows updater client's "edit hosts" button.  Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the No-IP client?  I installed the client after my Orbi was setup and it works fine, i.e., the Edit Hosts button brings up the dialog where I have a single DDNS entry name.  Also check that the client has the correct No-IP website credentials (perhaps logout/login again to reset it) and also that the website correctly shows your DDNS entry.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the client right away, and still had the same issue. I downloaded it on a new pc on the network and had the same issue. I double and triple checked logins, all are correct and logged in… then I swapped the orbi router out for my old one and immediately the edit hosts dialog popped up when I clicked edit hosts. There’s definitely got to be something about the orbi router preventing it from working properly. It’s the only variable that changed. 😕

Swapping out a router changes a lot of things in your home network, on your PC, etc.  No doubt it's preventing the DUC client to behave weirdly, but it doesn't mean there's some Orbi setting to fix it.

The DUC client has a Tools... Logs... Graphical Client Log that does something when I press Edit Hosts.  What does yours show?  There might be a clue or error message there explaining why the client is behaving weird.  Mine shows:
