several replies seem to have disappeared, but someone suggested lowering the network speed when trying to download a large file over ethernet.. i have suspected it might be due to transfer going "too fast" (for the ONT?).. is there a way on the orbi router i can try throttling ethernet speed? or is this something that i need to do on the computer doing the downloading?
also, could MTU size be the problem? i have the orbi set to 1500, the ISP says 1500 or 1492 - i've tried 1492 in the past but wondering if there could be something wrong there.
- FURRYe38Jul 22, 2025Guru - Experienced UserCheck with the ISP to see what MTU values they are supporting. I believe that most Cable and Fiber ISPs support max 1500 MTU. Could be some variances though. I know back in DSL days, 1492 or 1472 was common for DSL ISPs. Testing speeds directly with the ONT is just for getting a comparison check with out the RBR being online. Seen odd issues with some Fiber ISP and these ONTs they use with NG routers. Can be some interaction or interoperability issues with these ONTs.
