RBS350 won't reset

Like others, I am having issues with one RBS350 satellite flashing white. It is showing in the Orbi app as part of the network but offline. So far I have done the following:

  1. Tried the sync buttons
  2. Reset the satellite using the hole on the back. Turned orange, then back to flashing white (it is still showing in the app afterwards but I can't find a way to remove it.
  3. Checked firmware - It is out of sync with the RBR350 router, so that's probably an issue and I need to manually update firmware.
  4. Tried to log in using IP address of orbilogin.net and 1.192.168.1.1. to update the firmware, connect to the router directly using CAT6 cable (also tried wireless). I can get a login page using orbilogin.net, but it won't accept the password. I don't recall ever changing it, but admin and password don't work.
  5. Tried to reset the satellite admin password from a prompt on the browser login screen using the serial number. It tells me the number is incorrect despite multiple correct attempts.
  6. Tried to reset the router admin password instead, same deal, says the serial number I'm using is incorrect.

I'm now stumped after following all the solutions from previous cases. I tried to reach out to Netgear support, but the only option they give me is to ask the community as the device is more than a year old.

It's frustrating there is absolutely no way to reach Netgear for support, but hopefully someone from their team is checking these posts.

Is there anything else I can do?

  • Netgear will talk to you if you purchase a support contract.

The web administration password gets changed as part of the original configuration, which happened over a year ago.  That Password Recovery process asks for answers to some Security Questions which were also supposed to be set up over a year ago during the initial configuration, but from posts on the forum it is pretty clear that many customers did not perform this step. (Either the prompt was vague or they somehow skipped that step.)

The only way to get into the web administration is to do a Factory Reset on the RBR350 router, which will return the web password to "password".

One way to know if the configuration process was completed is to verify that the WiFi login credentials no longer match what is printed on the label on the bottom of the router.  It is really common for customers to set the WiFi  to match their previous router so that they do not have to reconfigure every WiFi device in the house. (I have kept the same WiFi credentials for over 20 years.)

The web interface has a clear option on the Attached Devices page to Delete a satellite which is not connected properly and then the Add Orbi Satellite menu can be used to attempt to add it again.

  • Try a full on factory reset on the RBR and RBS using this process?

What FW version is loaded on the system?

Had a FW update been performed recently? RBS need to be updated first then the RBR lastly.
