RBSE960 Ethernet Fails / Drops When Resuming PC from Sleep
Running a RBRE960 / RBSE960 (x2) setup in my home on firmware v7.2.6.31. The issue I have and can reliably reproduce is if my PC is put to sleep vs shut down, resuming from sleep causes all ethernet ports on the satellite to stop working. The only reliable way to temporarily fix the issue is to restart the satellite which fixes itself immediately upon reboot. If I instead shut down my PC, this does not occur upon system boot.
Relevant PC Specs: Windows 11 23H2, MSI MPG Z790 CARBON WIFI II Motherboard with an Intel Ethernet Controller I226-V on latest driver v2.1.5.3 available from MSI.
Connections: The PC in question is directly connected to the 2.5Gbps port via a Monoprice Cat6 Blue CMP UTP 23AWG 550Mhz cable. Another PC and Phillips Hue Hub are connected on two 1Gbps ports, which also drop when this occurs, but timing of it being tightly bound to my PC resuming from sleep does not appear to point to the other devices being the cause.
What doesn't work:
- Restarting network adapter on PC
- Restarting PC
- Disabling Energy Efficient Ethernet on network adapter as per some reports online that it causes instability.
I know something is tripping up the Orbi when my PC resumes from sleep, but I can't guess as to why that is. I'm realizing my cable, while it may support 2.5Gbps, technically isn't certified to do so. So I may try exploring a cat6a cable to test with. That said, I wouldn't expect this behavior of all ethernet ports failing if this was the case, but rather just slower speeds. If anyone has some ideas I would love to hear them, this has been annoying me for months needing to reboot or not use the Windows sleep feature at all. And thanks!

Ethernet patch cables are relatively inexpensive, so changing to a higher rated cable can't hurt. However, when the computer is connected to the Orbi satellite port, the two Ethernet adapters will auto negotiate the highest speed that can be supported over the cable. (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation ) If the cable did not support 2.5G, then the link would connect at 1G. (The Orbi web interface, Advanced Tab, Show Statistics indicates that it is indeed connecting at 2.5G?)
It might be useful to temporarily move this PC to one of the gigabit ports and see if the situation occurs when the PC is connected there.
I had a similar situation a couple of years ago with an HP laptop. If I put it to sleep by closing the lid, when the lid was opened again the Ethernet port did not resume operation. Had that globe symbol on the task bar instead of the the computer symbol. Restarting the laptop fixed it, but was annoying. A Wireshark trace on the Ethernet port showed that the laptop was issuing DHCP requests. The Orbi was responding. But the laptop just kept issuing DHCP requests. A Windows software update months later fixed the problem. If you are comfortable doing so, it might be interesting to set up a Wireshark capture on the Ethernet port, put the system to sleep, wake it up again, and examine the Wireshark trace.
(this is simple on a laptop. just close the lid. is there a command on the desktop to "go to sleep"?)
Try disabling power management controls for the adapter? How windows controls it.
Does the same thing happen if you connect the PC to the other ports behind the RBS?
