Ethernet hardware (the actual physical equipment) has a mechanism to detect the highest speed that the link between two Ethernet devices will support:

If the CR1000A reports that the port connected to the Orbi RBR850 has negotiated 100Mbps, the most common reason is something about the cable path between CR1000A and RBR850 is "not right". It could be
- There is something wrong with the actual cable
- There is something wrong with one of the RJ45 plugs on the ends of the cable.
- There is something wrong with one of the RJ45 jacks (CR1000A, RBR850)
The most common troubleshooting steps are:
- Replace the Ethernet cable with another cable.
- Physically examine the RJ45 jacks to see if one of those tiny gold wires is bent or misaligned.
As FURRYe38 pointed out, there is no obvious reason to keep the CR1000A unless:
- Verizon is providing telephone service.
- Verizon is providing television service.
