WEIRD Orbi AX5700 fast but slow when connected to satellites

Hello! I have a weird issue.

A few specs:

500gb att fiber on bridge mode

Netgear orbi mesh system 2 satellites on router mode

Latest firmware

Desktop with hard wired connection to router

My issues:

When doing a factory reset, I have zero issues for a few weeks, then suddenly this issue occurs.

When connected to the modem directly, I get speeds above 500 mbps.

When ONLY the router is connected, I get the same speeds above 500 on wired as well as wifi. However, I notice sometimes the internet drops more frequently giving me the purple light.

However, when I connect my satellites it causes a HUGE decrease in speeds where I can't go anything above 100 mbps.

This is even with the desktop connected directly to the router.

Does anyone know why?

I tried tinkering with the settings, rebooting the satellites later after the router is steady but nothing.

It's been an ongoing issue for over a year and me constantly restarting everything a million times is getting annoying.

Thank you!

  • Just an update:

I let the router stay on by itself for a few hours now with 0 satellites on and now the speeds decreased again back to under 100 mbps.

Not sure what's going on. I know my router can handle enough devices connected so I'm not sure.

      Is this the system? https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbk843s

(Those "AX" numbers are marketing speak for a make-believe number which comes from adding the "maximum theoretical speed" of each radio.  It helps to know the actual product number from the label on the bottom of the router.)

WiFi routers are not supposed to "lose internet" frequently.  My connection to Spectrum goes months without interruption.

I would not expect AT&T fiber to be any different.  Is there a way to interrogate the AT&T device to see if it reports anything?  (or AT&T tech support?)

        Thanks for the reply!

        Yes thats it.

When I simply remove my LAN cable from the router directly to the modem, I get super fast speeds without a restart or anything.

Currently after factory resetting the Orbi I have fast speeds again but this always happens and eventually it goes back down to under 100.

This happened before with an older orbi and I assumed it was due to me maxing out the number of max devices it can handle but it's still doing it.

I know some suggested trying each connected device one at a time but that will take forever.
